Big upset of the other Russian beating Kim Yuan, the 2010 Gold medalist. Good to see the veteran Kostner from Italy getting a medal. She had a horrible last Olympics.
Putin was holding the Judges hostage in retaliation for loosing in hockey.
Kim was ROBBED! No way Russian judges were going to let the best figure skater in the world win again, not as long as they did the scoring. The Russian was good, but Kim was flawless and was robbed. Things like this happen in every Olympics.
The Russian’s performance was uninspired, but netted a huge score, naturally. This is the first time since 1936 that no U.S. Men or women received medals in figure skating. We won no medals in speed skating either. Perhaps we should forget skating and concentrate on the snowboarding events.
Far cry from 1980. IMHO Eric Heiden was the greatest US Olympian of all. Nobody dominated a sport like he did.

(What Would Obama Do?)
Heiden was once in a century freak (in a good way). I lived in Sacramento CA area and he was an orthopedics surgeon in the area.
I don’t know anything about speed skating, but I do know something about dance. While great athlets US skaters lack the grace of skaters from other nations in my opinion. Get them back in the ballet studios and you will see better results. Have them listen to Tchaikovsky and Vivaldi and toss out the Katy Perry and GaGa.
The fix was in:
Even before the scores came in for Kim, Tara Lapinski and Johnny Weird questioned whether Kim Yuan would get a high enough score to beat Adelina. Adelina had 7 tripple, triples compared to Kim’s 6. Adelina had one “bobble where Kim had Issues with a couple of her landings. While Kim’s program “ looked pretty” the judges look for technical issues that have to be reviewed in slow motion.
Congratulations Adelina Sotnikova!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Women’s hockey in OT;
Switzerland - Bronze
She deserves Gold... just because. :p
I kind of feel bad for South Korea, this has not been a good Olympics for them. They host the next one, I hope they field a great team for that one.
I personally think Davis and White are the true fairy tale story from the winter Olympics this year. First ever gold for the USA in their Category with the highest score ever recorded despite a deduction. I don’t know the sport but it was a spectacular performance.
Everybody knew they had won before the scores were even announced.
I completely agree. We’re so focused on the athletics of skating that our skaters lack the grace necessary for a beautiful, gold medal, performance. The notable exception: Davis and White in ice dancing.
Funny how the US womens hockey team was winning all the way up to the point where the announcer announced a bet of a case of beer between oblunder and the Canadian PM then it went all downhill from there.
I think we should forget all the olympic events unless they are timed or some way you can score - such as hockey.
Saw this. Heartbreaking. We led 2/0 for two plus periods Canada scored twice in the final three minutes. We lost in sudden death ot the American team played great hockey all through the series
You know what Obama would do. You just don't know which ladyboy male skaters he'd choose to do it with.
“Far cry from 1980. IMHO Eric Heiden was the greatest US Olympian of all. Nobody dominated a sport like he did.”
Are you forgetting Edwin Moses? Heiden did it in one Olympics, Moses in multiple. UNDEFEATED in his specialty for ELEVEN YEARS!!
If Moses won the 100, 200, 880 and 10,000 meter events, then I would say he was on par with Eric Heiden.
I was a competitive skater in the 1980s before they got rid of compulsory figures, which was the beginning of the end for figure skating. The final nail in the coffin was retiring the 6.0 scoring system and replacing it with the “code of points.” As in dance where ballet is the foundation for all genres of dance, in skating compulsory figures are the foundation for all genres of skating, i.e., singles, pairs and ice dancing. Everything a skater does on the ice is based on them. They were taught in order to gain control and confidence of blade edges. A solid foundation in figures made you a better freeskater. Figures were eliminated from competition after 1990. After the 2002 Olympics they abolished the 6.0 scoring system and replaced it with the “code of points” so now skating has been reduced to a jumping contest and who can rack up the most points whereas skating before had been lyrical and artistic as well as athletic. I haven’t watched skating since Michelle Kwan retired from the sport. Want to see some of the best, head on over to YouTube and look up old videos of Kwan, Boitano, Hamill and Curry,Babilonia and Gardner, Torville and Dean then compare to a skater of today and note the painful difference.
Kim made the fatal mistake of saying she was a practicing Christian who always thanked God for her ability to skate. She was screwed out of the God. A blind man could see it.
“She was screwed out of the God”
Out of the Gold I mean. Skating on one leg she’s better than Natasha Baddenoff.
Don’t know much about it. But found it interesting the prediction came true.
Kim Yuan, Yuan Kim, Kim Yuna, Yuna Kim, Yu-Na Kim, Kim Yu-Na.. Who is who and which is which?
김연아 is probably how it is spelled in Korean hangul
