SOCHI, Russia — Ashley Wagner launched a withering attack on figure skating's hierarchy and the Winter Olympics judges on Thursday night after being pushed down to seventh in the ladies' individual competition.

The 22-year-old American fought back tears as she revealed her frustration and anger with the judging at the Iceberg Skating Palace and suggested that the two Russian skaters, gold medalist Adelina Sotnikova and fifth-place finisher Julia Lipnitskaia, had been given unfairly inflated scores.

"I feel gypped," said Wagner, who skated two programs without any falls and punched the air with delight at the end of her free skate.

Ashely Wagner has never been a favorite of mine.

Mine neither after this whine fest. She takes the gold for sour grapes and bad sportsmanship.

At least McKayla after her little incident in London showed a sense of humor about it, and won over people.

GROW UP AND QUIT WHINING!!

When nothing you say will make any difference you graciously don’t say anything.

Gongradulations your attitude just ruined any chance of getting commercial success from being an olympian

She may have some valid points but she needs to shut her mouth. For starters she finished 4th in the US Nationals and they decided to bump the third place finisher to make a place for her on the olympic team. She gipped someone else’s opportunity to skate in Sochi and she should have been grateful to been given a second chance instead of sounding like a whiny primadonna.

Maybe they need instant replay.

Why? Judging in figure skating is purely opinion

It’s a judged sport, it lack absolutes, it’s why I don’t watch them.

That was a joke. There is no point to instant replay where there is no objective standard.

“After Russian was taken out of the Hockey medal contention, this was to be expected. The two biggest events of the Winter Olympics are figure skating “

The Russians also lost their expected gold medal in the men’s skate when their golden boy fell in warm up and withdrew and then their little prodigy girl would have won gold in the team competition but fell twice and blew it in the individual ladies skate.

There was no way the Russians weren’t going to get a gold in the ladies or men’s individual.

Judging is a very big reason that I don’t really follow figure skating or gymnastics anymore. Tired of politics trumping skill.

Scot Hamilton explained it this AM. The new judging rules consider the beauty of the dance quite a bit, and a perfect program might fall short if the gymnastics overwhelm the art.

I'm getting guilty pleasure out of the pre-ordained winners falling short. It's happened with these women and it happened with the speed skaters. They haven't been gracious. Besides which it's real easy for someone who's too sure of themselves to fall a bit short.

So I'm not blaming the judges. Maybe having one older skater in the trio instead of three teenagers might've better prepared them for the intensity of this competition, and the nuances of how the voting goes.

There are some great stories being told. Isn't it something how most of them belong to those who are grateful for this opportunity to reach beyond expectations?

She can feel however she wants but it is bad form to whine about it and won’t change the outcome. Life isn’t fair and she needs to be a good sport.

Shouldn’t judge a book by its cover but after seeing her photos she looks like a pain in the ass.

I agree with you on Ashley Wagner. She is not a favorite of mine either. She has no room whatsoever to complain about feeling “gypped” when she was beaten fair and square at Nationals, but was selected for the Olympic team anyway. Mirai Nagasu can school her on getting gypped.

I would have put Carolina Kostner in first.

Yes, I whole-heartedly agree. Out of the entire bunch Carolina was the only one I truly enjoyed watching. She is a class act.
