Does NBC Show Medal Ceremonies?
2/21/14 | Originalbuckeye

I watched the young American win the Ladies Ski Halfpipe last night. I saw her celebrate with hugs from friends/competitors. I didn't see the Gold being awarded to her.

We have 8 Golds. I have only seen one of the medal ceremonies with our National Anthem. Are they showing the awards AT ALL?

It is Marxist NBC. So not much of it if at all.

My husband and I have wondered the same thing. We have not seen any medal ceremonies. We concluded that the commies at NBC didn’t want anyone to hear our national anthem, or to feel any sense of national pride as a result of their broadcasts.

This has been—BAR NONE—the absolute worst coverage of the Olympics that I can ever remember!

I think they are doing them later in the day or the next day at some medal award venue rather than each sport's venue. I've seen a few, but usually at the end of the day's broadcast and the background always looks the same.

I don't know whether they did that with women's hockey since so many players on on the team or if they just did that on the rink.

That would be nationalist. The Comintern frowns on nationalism. We don’t want to displease the broadcast’s political officer, do we?

I haven’t watched a moment of the Olympics. It has been so nice. I have caught up on House of Cards, Twisted, Scandal, Game of Thrones, and a few others. Nice overall break from watching the networks.

I came to the same conclusion when I realized the medal ceremonies have been missing. Shame on NBC.

I've liked this year better than most. They seem to have more sports and less background touchy-feely stories. I don't need to hear how a snowboarder is overcoming the loss of his three legged cat Hoppy. Other years it seemed to be equally divided between commercials, sports and background. Also it doesn't hurt that Costas was gone for a week.

Not unless they are people of color. Furthermore, it would make America appear to jingoistic and not good guests in a foreign country.

Yes, yes they do.

AT THE VERY END OF THEIR PRIMETIME BROADCAST.

It is the LAST thing they do at the end of the show before going to local news.

As far as the ladies Halfpipe ceremony: the events that are done later in the day have the medals awarded the next day down out the main Olympic Plaza in Sochi. Our Ms. Bowman will be awarded her medal today (and already has been, their time). The medal ceremony will be shown late tonight at the END of the broadcast.

They (NBC) do this so people who WANT to see the US athletes get their Gold and hear the Anthem are FORCED to have to watch ALL THE REST of their show before getting to the “good stuff”.

They must be showing some, they’re showing up in the OnDemand listing and the only stuff there is stuff they showed. A lot of times they’re delayed from the event, especially in the Winter Games where you’ve got a lot of half frozen people.

Despite what you think, NBC has shown EVERY American Gold Medal ceremony. They just do it at the THE MOST inconvenient time they can possibly do it.

The medal ceremonies don't happen right away.

It used to be that they'd hold the ceremonies at the venue shortly after the event. Yesterday, I saw that they had the ceremony for skier Ted Ligety the day after the event.

I think it's because they created a medal ceremony stage outside in the center near the flame, and they are scheduling all the ceremonies to be held there.

I pay about $10 extra a month to get the Sports Package with my cable carrier. I got to watch all the skaters and all the men’s hockey games with none of the human interest stories. It has been a great Olympics for me. Just the hockey final left on Sunday to enjoy.

NBC even offers replays of the figure skating and hockey games you can watch on your computer if you are a cable subscriber. Love it.

I have seen a couple of them, I think at the sign-off time at night, if they have a few minutes left. They have been very abbreviated, basically just the person standing there for part of the National Anthem being played. I believe that the medals are NOT being awarded soon after the events at this Olympics, but are all being given in ceremonies on the following day. Someone may come along to correct me, because I am no expert; the above has just been my observation.

I saw the one for the ice dancing gold medal winners. But the medals weren’t awarded the night they won, but the next day. They had a “flower” ceremony right after the event where the 3 medal winners were presented with flowers and the medals the next day. I don’t know if they’re doing that with all the events or not. I did see the medal ceremony for the 3 American men who swept the medals in one event, either skiing or sledding. And they weren’t shown at some during the night hour or I would have never seen them.

They show in the last few minutes of the broadcast, when folks have already started to channel surf or have shut the set off.
