Seven other crew members were treated at a hospital for injuries suffered on the 110-year-old trestle above the Altamaha River in Wayne County.
Open Road Films, the films U.S. distributor; Unclaimed Freight, the Pasadena company producing the film; and the Georgia-based Meddin Studios film crew had permission from the railroad operator to film "Midnight Rider" near the railroad tracks, but they did not have permission to be on it, authorities said.
"I do believe there is going to be an issue about whether they had permission to be on the tracks," Wayne County Sheriffs Det. Joe Gardner told the Los Angeles Times.
Variety reported that the film crew had been provided a train schedule by CSX and had paused for two expected trains. A third train caught them by surprise and sent people scrambling, Variety reported.

Must a been on a wicked bummer..
Was it a PEACH train.....
Sorry
A train going 70 mph closes on you very quickly.
the only way to go is down
Railway safety is a very big issue, even a federal one. Having been through the required training on an annual basis for many of the rail systems, the word near does not describe the defined limits without railway safety personnel on site. I know that CSX is one of the most ardent enforcers of the rules.
From what I can gather from the report is the crew neglected the well defined limits as it mentions nothing about any CSX railway officials who would have known about the “surprise” train because they always are in radio contact with dispatch.
And it's funny how sometimes a train coming fast can be nearly silent, so you really have no warning.
The Allman Brothers must be cursed!
I am so sorry to hear about this. Unclaimed Freight has made several films and their “hey let’s put on a show” attitude is refreshing but I can see this happening because of it. I met those folks recently when their last film CBGB was premiering, and I love three of their films that not coincidentally star my favorite actor.
Why would anybody do a “biopic” on the least talented member of that band?
The gov’t oughta do something about trains, what with people getting killed, and all..
C’mon, Obama, you have a pen and a phone... Do something, anything!!!
Save us!!!!!
Greg Allman wrote most of the hits for the Allman Brothers and The Greg Allman Band.
The guy was a major dirt bag but far from over rated as a musician.
You are exactly right. The firm I work for has done renovations to depots along the MoPac tracks and the safety personnel had to be there on site when construction came within so many feet of the tracks.
Cat al-Stevens already covered that.
In our Just-us System, Hollywood is favored over evil railroad companies. Plus the young lady and the injured crew members are almost locals, being from the Atlanta area.
Slam dunk against CSX
Artsy-Fartsy meets real heavy metal.
What? Moon shadow? ‘Splain.
