Bulldozers are set to demolish a building in Mecca situated right above the site believed by scholars to be the birthplace of Islams Prophet Muhammad.
The Saudi Binladin Group, which is charged with redeveloping the historical area, plans to raze a small library on the site in order to build a modern complex which would include a presidential palace and imams residence.
The demolition would take place just steps away from Meccas Masjid al-Haram, or Grand Mosque, which surrounds the Kaaba, one of Islams holiest sites.

This just moved to the top of my MUST MISS list!
I hope they build a Sony’s Pulled Pork Pit BBQ on it.
My understanding of the Saudi’s is that keeping these holy sites is akin to what Christians would term idolatry and therefore sinful. I believe they’d like to get rid of Mecca and Medina as holy sites as well, but are stopped by the potential backlash among other less enlightened Muslims. Can anybody offer an up-to-date view on this? (Recall they also wish to rid the earth of all monuments prior to Mohamed and offered money to destroy the pyramids of Egypt. And, the Taliban destroyed all of the ancient monuments in Afghanistan.)
Saudi Arabia has destroyed thousands of artifacts and historical sites to be able to hold the millions of Muslims who come to Mecca every year. As a result settlements that go back as far as the time of Abraham have been destroyed to put up hotels and shopping malls.
Islam: The Religion of Razing...
That's why people are mistaken when they say "What Islam needs is a Refomation." Uh-uh.. These guys ARE the "Reformation."
They are most thorough-going destroyers of Islamic holy places in the world.
I am very thankful Israel never did this with the suspect birthplace of Jesus.
Are you saying that Mecca and Medina could be nuked as might the Dome of the Rock and the muzzies wouldn't care?
But, theologically, an interesting question.
Can you post a photo? I’m not really in to pop culture.
That would kinda put a dent in the purpose of Pillar #5, aka the “hajj” (pilgrimage) to Mecca.
They have bulldozers in hell?
Yeah. They’re enforcing “no god but allah” AND “no pilgrimage but to Mecca.”
the saudis, and their Wahabi-Sunni clerics, are not big on preserving history, unless its their own
Hope is it as ugly as the Clinton Lie-brary.
Massive amounts of bacon grease should fill the site and contaminate the soil.
When you’ve seen one pig sty, you’ve seen ‘em all.
His birthplace was torn down 70 years ago, about 1350 years after his birth. Thanks Olog-hai.
> The house of Mawlid where Muhammad is believed to have been born in 570. Originally turned into a cattle market, it now lies under a rundown building which was built 70 years ago as a compromise after Wahhabi clerics called for it to be torn down.
Inbred, pedophile-worshipping misogynists (mozlums) all.
Sounds like a nice spot for a [pig farm to me.
