All the buzz at the National Governors Association meeting over legalizing pot, some say, is just smoke.

Nearly three months after Colorado began selling recreational marijuana, the nation’s governors are taking a cautious approach to loosening their drug laws despite growing support for legalization.

Republican and Democratic state chief executives meeting in Washington this weekend expressed broad concern for children and public safety should recreational marijuana use spread. At the same time, Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper is warning other governors against rushing to follow his lead. …

This is going to raise a heck of a lot more problems than revenue for the politicians. But hey! Potheads come up with a lot of ‘good ideas’.

‘Sounds like’ you are trying to cover for the typical pol today...

I guess the excuse for all the idiocy is the Pols are all high HOWEVER, I would rather they were high than just plain stupid.

I was in CO skiing last week and besides the fact you could smell it in a lot of places - you could tell some of the lift attendants - store keepers - ski / snowboard shop employees were stoned to bejesus. This will have a lot of different repercussions eventually.

Oh yea - my young teenagers now know what Pot smells like. If they weren't sure before - they sure as hell know now.

I would hope that states will move slowly and cautiously here.

But recent stories about the tax windfall being enjoyed by the state government of Colorado makes me think that a lot of states are going to push ahead.

Oh, for the good old days before governors had conferences. They worried about their own state and nothing else.

Well said. Same could probably be said for the 17th amendment and what Senators worried about.

I’m sure that previous to this law, that ski resort personnel preached the Bible and knew nothing of this “reefer madness”. /s

Well less than a hundred years ago, weed had not yet been made illegal at the federal level by the bastardization of the interstate commerce clause, which so many people here support, even if they are afraid to do it openly. Because to do so exposes them to the so many other abuses of the same clause. And they’re embarrassed by cognitive dissonance.

It’s just so bizarre to me that some FReepers consider substances being illegal to be the natural state of things, and that one must produce arguments to support them not being illegal. How do you not see the corollary to other actions currently prohibited by the federal government? Choosing to pay for your own medical care out of pocket, for example, without being fined.

Wouldn’t say that because I was there before the new rules - it’s just more prevalent and more open with a “who cares” attitude.

Gotcha. Hopefully the “newness” of the law will wear off and people won’t flaunt it anymore. I won’t hold my breath though.

So now the landscape has changed. Follow your doctors advice. Except under obamacare you have no doctor. So follow your own advice...nah... There is a federal mandate. Follow their advice... nah...tell the feds all your “troubles” of addiction and get a free pass to healthcare under the disability act but try and get disability from the feds if you ARE disabled...nah

Urban Pacification.

I am sure the more nutty folks thought about putting something in the water supply to make the population passive and easy to manipulate.

They didn’t have to.
