The United States Postal Service has announced that former NRA President Charlton Heston will be honored with his own stamp. The stamp is part of their “Legends of Hollywood” series, and while the specific issue date has not yet been determined, it will be issued sometime in 2014.

Heston was a five term president of the National Rifle Association from 1998 to 2003. He was a tireless advocate for Second Amendment rights and will always be remembered by the NRA faithful for his “cold, dead hands” speech delivered at the 2000 NRA Annual Meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The only time I have ever been to Boulder was to see Charlton Heston speak.

Don’t expect to see a firearm in the design.

I bet it’s going to be the same old old Moses.

For once Ben-Hur should get its due, especially as it shows Heston more as he really was, not some giant white wig and Santa beard.

I dunno anyone who uses USPS stamps any more ...I sure don’t.

May be a fun collector’s item.....they’ll probably picture him as Moses and avoid the 2A stuff.

Sometimes, you just have to send the real thing.

No reason to have a gun when the theme is movies.

>>Don’t expect to see a firearm in the design<<

If it is and your kid takes it grade school, expect suspension/expulsion from the same idiots who punished a kid for biting a pastry into an L shape.

That is actually quite excellent.

It captures him at the height of his looks and career.

I would use this stamp. I happily found out that the Ronald Reagan stamps really anger my leftist friends and family upon receipt of letters from me.

Me too LOL. I use the Reagan stamps when we mail stuff to other production studios.

I do. A whole lot more than in the past five years. And I use greenbacks most of the time now at the stores. I’m sure you can figure out why. The inconvience is worth it, imo.

Are they really going to use an old Heston? For most of his movies he was younger than that.

Well, my bank sends out my bill payments....for free. And I don’t do Christmas cards any longer...I have partial book of forevers that are from when they first came out.

As a kid, I used to collect stamps and still have tons of folders [commemoratives, worth only face value]...if push comes to shove, I could always use those. :)

From the link I posted above:

This stamp features a color portrait based on a photograph taken by the actor’s wife, Lydia Clarke Heston. An image of Heston from the 1959 movie Ben-Hur decorates the selvage. Originally shot in black and white, the photograph was later hand-tinted, and shows Heston in his costume from the monumental chariot racing scene, one of the most famous action sequences ever filmed. Heston won a best actor Oscar for playing the title character, Judah Ben-Hur, a Judean prince who rebels against Roman occupation during the time of Christ.

I don't think they have decided on a design yet.
