The most expensive place on Earth? Disney World raises admission prices for second time in a year..
UK Daily Mail ^ | Feb 24, 2014 | Staff

It might be the happiest place on earth, but your wallet won't be feeling any happier after splashing out even more to 'experience the magic' of Disney. The cost of going to the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World just got more expensive. Although Disney won't specify the reasons behind the increase, the Florida parks are home to the company's new high-tech wristband-based ticketing and ride reservation system, called MyMagic+ which cost the company $1.5 billion.

.........................................................

Disney World has raised the one-day ticket price to the Magic Kingdom by $4 so that it now costs $99 before taxes for visitors over age 9.

The pass says it can be used anytime. I wonder, can I still use it?”

Would be fun for you to try. Might want to take a camera crew with you. You’d probably at least be good for a UTube on truth in advertising.

Have a friend who was going through some boxes in her attic and found an envelope just stuffed with old grocery coupons with no expiration date. Prices were just ridiculously low and she said they had to have been at least 8 to 10 years old. Took them to the store on a Friday night when there was a lot of traffic. Store manager got involved and although he was extremely unhappy about redeeming them he instructed the checker to do so but told my friend there were be no more redemptions of old coupons for her. Pretty funny! Some she could not redeem because the products are no longer available to match what was listed on the coupon.

Glad we took the youngest grandson four years ago. At today’s prices we would have to skip and head for the beach.

My kids are almost grown and I could never afford to take them to Disney.

Us, too.

I feel guilty having gone as a kid and adult earlier.

Here is an article from last November that details how Disney's "Nextgen" IT boondoggle affected its capital renovation program for the next few years.

How Problems with MyMagic+ Could Affect Other Projects.

what was the loophole?

It was twofold:

1) The fast pass rules were that you could get your next one 2 hours later, or at the start of the return window of your most recent one, whichever was earlier. If you spent the early part of your day snapping up fast passes with early return times, you could accumulate several to use the rest of the day, because...

2) Despite the time window listed on the ticket, you could actually use the fast passes at any time after the start of the return window, even if they had "expired".

As an unrelated loophole, some fast pass machines were "disconnected" from the network and would issue you a pass regardless of whether you were time-eligible or not.

So, with a good plan, you could build up a nice collection of fast passes, while riding things on standby in the first couple of hours when lines were light, and then spend the rest of the day cashing in your passes at your leisure while the rest of the crowd was standing in lines.

I took the family last year and it was a bit of a blow to my wallet. I went when I was 11 and had a very memorable time - thought it would be the same, but it wasn’t. My kids (13 and 7) had a good time, but to me it just seemed to go by too fast...guess that’s part of the tragedy of growing up.

By the way - what is with the sadistic parents that dress their little daughters up in princess costumes? Those were the most miserable kids I’d ever seen in my life...sweltering heat, having to spend the day in a polyester gown...poor things just crying and dry-heaving from dehydration...lol

Only if:

You stop in the middle of flowing crowds to discuss food.

You take flash pictures in a dark ride or movie.

You don’t deal with a crying child for 15 or 20 minutes.

You don’t laugh at the jokes in the Jungle Cruise.

Don’t believe the 6 foot mouse walking around the parks in a tux is a real 6 foot mouse.

In December, what we did was to use our Magic band to get a fast pass, then use our Annual pass to get another, and then our room key to get a third. We had fast passes coming out of our nose.

They don’t let you do that anymore either.

Attendance will tell if their prices are too high or not.
Exactly. One way to cut down on the crowds and long lines is to jack up prices.

Now, for about the same items, I am lucky to get out of the store spending less than $300, and I HAVE spent over $400

Manufacturers have subtlely reduced the size/quantity of their products while at the same time increasing the price.

Look at your brand laundry detergents, they are the most striking example. And kleenex such as Puffs, they used to fill my dispenser but now there's been about a 15% reduction in their size.......

Or better yet, what would George Washington do if he came back?

Demand that he be placed on the $5 bill?

I just found my 4-day pass from 1992. The total for the four days is $118. I only used two of the days. The pass says it can be used anytime. I wonder, can I still use it?

Was just there the week before last, sign at check-in says they will honor some unused multi-day pass days regardless of age (but not all). I think it's explained in the FAQ at their website.

If you go back to the area, give Universal a try. We went last summer — it was fantastic. Our girls were 11, 9, & 8 at the time. They all like the crazy fast rides, which is sort of Universal’s claim to fame. We spent only a day at Disney, in Magic Kingdom, and it was really fun too, but when we asked them their preference they all voted Univeral. Myself, I could spend days just taking in the architecture and the details. Simply amazing. As good as anything I’ve ever seen in the Disney parks.

Will be all be assessed this $99 whether we choose to visit or not? No? This is not far down on my list of things to worry about, it’s not ON my list of things to worry about.

What happened, did Disney piss off the homosexual lobby? The muzzies? Ban hoodies? Accidentally hire someone named George Zimmerman?

World of laughter, world of tears ping.

Thanks C19fan.
