Marijuana can be deadly, according to German researchers who claim to have discovered the first deaths caused by cannabis.

The researchers in Düsseldorf, North-Rhine Westphalia, have been investigating cannabis-related deaths since 2001 and performed post-mortem examinations on 15 people whose deaths were linked to the drug. […]

Benno Hartung from the University Hospital in Düsseldorf said he and his colleagues performed autopsies and toxicological tests to rule out other causes of death such as liver disease and alcohol use. …

It will also cause lung cancer eventually. But that’s not the Govt’s problem. A compliant/high populace can be rolled over. THAT is what’s important.

It can cause uncontrollable nausea and vomiting, hallucinations, lung cancer and other respiratory illnesses associated with cigarette smoke, and makes you do stupid things like wreck your car. Gone are the days when the majority of pot smokers look like hippies sitting around on ripped couches covered in psychedelic afghans. Most pot-smokers today look like either regular, every day people or like thugs. Most of the hippie smokers grew up and grew out of it.

Technically, “Killer Weed” isn’t Marijuana.

It is PCP.

Correlation does not eqaul Causation

Correct, hence their design of the study to eliminate other causes.

Not the hippie smokers I grew up with, man! That's why they're now in their 50's and still washing dishes or driving cabs.

Fifteen people since 2001? Good grief, the rarest of disorders have killed more. In that period of time in Germany, 20,000 people have died due to complications from diarrheal disease - over 5,000 have been killed by tuberculosis...

Meanwhile liberal states rush to get “medical” marijuana into their people. Guess they figure that the more people have messed up minds, the more will vote democrat.

I have not read the study, just the attached article.

Pretty sparse on details about what was excluded to determine causation.

In 13 years of studies, they have found 15 people to study and 2 they believe they know that pot caused the death.

If this study had come back with the opposite conclusion, would you have bought it?

“It’s a diagnosis of exclusion so you have to rule out all other possibilities,”

Gotta wonder about any researcher who claims to know what all the other possibilities are in the first place, much less having proved it wasn't any of them.

So can alcohol or any other drug. Government should not be in the business of criminalizing poor personal choices or bad habits because that is the road to tyranny.

It will also cause lung cancer eventually.

I'm curious about this. Since most people in Colorado now are purchasing edibles or using vapes and inhaling the vapor (no smoke), what is the link with lung cancer?

Why not? If only a couple people in the world have died from marijuana use in the last decade+ it proves the drug is relatively safe, doesn't it?

If researchers have to search that much, for that long, and this is all they come up with (which, even then, is dubious at best) I think they’re unwittingly making the other side’s argument.

To be honest, I would not have believed that the heart arrhythmia it might cause would be any more deadly in its frequency than nicotine.

If anything, I would have expected lung cancer rates to be higher, instead of looking for evidence of arrhythmia.

It has to do with inhalation. When you inhale a toxic substance, it will kill the delicate cilia that waft particulates up and out of your lungs. The epithelial cells that line your lungs (and your alimentary tract) are secretory. The cilia are on the edges of these cells. When the cilia die, the secretory cells are no longer protected and can begin a process called metaplasia, where they start transitioning into protective epithelial cells ( like your epidermis). But protective epithelial cells don’t belong in your lungs. This protective layer can begin to multiply at random and that can begin the cancerous process. BTW, I work in cancer detection.

Not to support pot smoking, but two cases is hardly a scientific study. Both could have just bad hearts or other internal defects. Autopsies don't always have definitive conclusions, unlike TV shows.

I've know a couple people to this day who have smoked pot all their lives and they have had no physical problems. The problem with pot is it diminishes a persons' will, ambition, and self-concern. I experienced the above while experimenting with it in the late 60's and noticed how complacent I had become. Stopped using it and went on to great success!

Besides, it truly is a "gateway" drug. Watched SO many progress to harder drugs. Weak willed people will always move on to something else that makes them feel better, much like alcohol.
