Today is Pistol Patent Day.

In order to get a pistol patent, you must have a new design for a pistol. I'm sure you can whip one up in short order and lay down the permit application fees and such, right? If not, how can you participate in this day? .... we offer no answer to this question.

Did you Know? Samuel Colt invented the revolver, a pistol with multiple chambers for bullets. He patented it in Europe in 1835, and in the United States in 1836.

Raping of our Second Amendment Rights by NY State govt =

1922 no pistol permits required in NY State for the previous 137 years.

“Fort Niagara, July 30 :

Someone has said that with every reduction in our system of defense there must be a corresponding increase in the training of our citizens so that they will be ready to take ‘their place in the front line with a minimum of delay.
If the Regular Army and the National Guard are “appropriated” into such a state of weakness and unpreparedness that they can no longer form the first line of defense, then it will be necessary, In event of war, to rush our citizens from home to battle line with little or no time for training.

Because of this, the work that Is bring done, by the various Service Rifle and Pistol Teams is of increasing importance and peculiar Interest centers on their training this year and on the National Matches which are to be held at Camp, Perry, Ohio, In September, The primary Idea In holding rifle and pistol competitions is not the turning out of winning teams nor the production of medal hunters -but to increase interest thruout the Service and among our citizens in the use of the rifle and pistol.

In so far as the citizen population becomes familiar with the use of these arms the work of training men in time of emergency is lessened, and the safety of the individuals and our country Increased.”-—

A lot of things came together in the 19th century to make modern firearms possible.

The first was percussion priming invented by a Scottish preacher named Forsyth. From that came percussion caps and then someone, maybe S&W added a ball to the cap then came the .22 short with an extended case.

Colt’s revolver depended on percussion caps.

After the self contained cartridge was developed it led to just about all the modern weapons. There were a lot of automatic guns before John Browning but he really started something with the invention of the operating slide, then gas operation.

Browning used recoil operation for many guns but that had been around for a long time. The slide had not. I guess the next step will be caseless ammo but it will be a very slow process because of all the advantages of the brass case.

I worked for years to patent a pistol made of an entirely new material, undetectable by x-ray machines, perfect for concealment, and it turns out somebody beat me to it.

They got chocolate ammo, too. I suspect industrial espionage.

And now, from the dep't of useless knowledge, care of the Gun Digest, if I recall correctly, the Puckle gun came with both a round bore and a square one as well. Round was for most of your enemies. The square was for shooting Infidels. And, the Infidels were the guys with the brown skin, yes, the very ones who nowadays call US the infidels...

Ahh, for the good old days, eh?

Yup. The square rounds did more damage. That was the intent.
