The lead singer of a Grammy-nominated Christian metal band pleaded guilty Tuesday to trying to hire someone to kill his estranged wife.

Timothy Lambesis, 32, remains free on $2 million bond until he is sentenced May 2 on one count of solicitation of murder in Vista Superior Court, north of San Diego. He could get nine years in prison.

Lambesis, of the band As I Lay Dying, was recorded telling an undercover agent that he wanted his wife killed, according to prosecutors. The investigation began last April after Lambesis allegedly told a personal trainer at his gym that he wanted to get rid of his wife.

...

According to prosecutors, the singer reportedly provided the agent with an envelope containing a $1,000 down payment, his wife’s Del Mar address and gate codes and pictures of her. He asked that the murder be done on dates when he would have custody of his children so he’d have an alibi.

Bradley said he asked Lambesis directly if he wanted his wife killed, and the singer replied, “‘Yes, I do.’

Christian death metal? As a music historian I must ask, was it Christian melodic death metal, Christian brutal death metal, Christian GOREGRIND/DEATHGRIND, Christian Death/Doom, Christian Technical Death Metal, Christian Deathcore, or Christian DJENT?

If he had been a democrat, it would not have been mentioned. Christian? Put it right up front!

He was apparently very up front about the label himself. Assume he really did believe and then fell into sin.
Lambesis has stated that he is Christian.[4][5] During an August 2010 radio interview on The Full Armor of God Broadcast, Lambesis said "I can only really write about what I'm passionate about in life, so naturally my faith, my belief in the teachings of Jesus and His resurrection come across in our lyrics."[6] After Lambesis was arrested for solicitation of murder, the prosecution claimed that Lambesis told his wife in an email that he no longer believes in God.[7] While on bail Lambesis posted on his personal blog that after his incarceration he has been "re-evaluating topics", but it is unclear what those topics are and if they relate to his Christianity.[8] The blog post was taken down shortly after to avoid misinterpretation of the content.

Lambesis married Meggan Murphy in June 2004.[9] They separated in August 2012.[9] Meggan Murphy Lambesis filed papers in San Diego Superior Court in September 2012 seeking a dissolution of their marriage, according to an online court database.[10] In divorce papers, Meggan stated that Lambesis was obsessed with bodybuilding and was spending money irresponsibly. She later discovered he was carrying on an affair.[11] They have two daughters and a son all adopted from Ethiopia.[12][13]

When not on tour, Lambesis lived in Del Mar, California.[14][15] Meggan and the children live in Encinitas.[9][16]

Lambesis is a bodybuilder[5][17][18] and started his own YouTube fitness channel.[19]

Lambesis is heavily tattooed. His tattoos include a "rocking Jesus," and cyborg Arnold Schwarzenegger,[20] a Koi fish swimming upstream, which represents a quest for meaning and fulfillment, Hebrew writing, a cross, Jesus Christ in clouds, and his largest (completely covering his back), a samurai fighting a tiger, which represents the battle between reason and instinct.[21]

Lambesis grew up in North County. Lambesis was voted "Most Like Jesus" by classmates when he attended Santa Fe Christian School in Solana Beach as a teen.[22] He majored in Religious Studies[9][23] at Liberty University, a private Christian college that offers classes online.[18]

Tim Lambesis’ wife seeks $2 million in civil suit

When she asked a judge for a protection order, Meggan Lambesis (at left) stated that “we fear for all our lives” and requested protection for two Boston terrier dogs, as well as herself and three children. Meggan, 32, subsequently obtained a “stay away” order protecting herself and two daughters, age 11 and 9, and a son, 5. All three children were adopted from Ethiopia.

Meggan filed for dissolution of marriage in September 2012, one month after the two were separated (the couple was married in June 2004). She claims that the month before, Tim had sent her an email informing her that he no longer loved her and didn’t want to be with her anymore. He was away on tour at the time. Meggan stated in court papers that after their separation, “He continued to enjoy a comfortable lifestyle and bought a new residence in his parents’ name before he was arrested in May 2013 for allegedly hiring a hitman to have me killed.”

At the time of Tim Lambesis’ arrest, he was living with girlfriend, Amanda. Those two, in addition to a roommate, were living Carlsbad. Meggan lived in a neighboring community, along the San Diego County coastline, in Encinitas. As of August 2013, Tim is listed in court paperwork as residing in Del Mar.

One of Meggan’s divorce attorneys asked for release of funds from a court-controlled account. That request was for $52,500 in “fees” and $40,000 in “costs.” Meggan’s divorce team is listed as four attorneys, a paralegal, a secretary, and a “clerical person;” the combined hourly rate for these seven persons comes to $1,740 per hour.

Meanwhile, Tim Lambesis’ divorce attorney listed his fee as $525 per hour. Tim stated that he has paid his own attorney $35,000 as of July 2013. After that date, a judge released $20,000 more to each attorney for both sides out of a trust account.

In her most recent filings, dated August 7, 2013, Meggan estimated that Tim’s income was $14,088 per month; she came to that figure from information she had for the time period November 2012 through February 2013. Tim filed a declaration of income and expense as part of the divorce proceedings. In that paperwork, Tim stated that his parents live with him. In his list of expenses, Tim claimed $2,000 per month for a “psychiatrist.”

I don’t believe in that. I think God gives everybody the ability to walk away from the relationship, if they so chose. However, Salvation is still open to anybody who repents, regardless of what they have done.

Divorce can push some people over the edge. Some people snap over financial issues and some snap over feelings of betrayal. The judicial system doesn't make the situation any better. I've seen some real nice people turn real ugly while they were going through a divorce. It's a terrible thing, especially for the children involved.

How is it that these guys always end up hiring undercover cops? Or if they’re only the fraction who get caught, I wonder how many people successfully hire a real hitman?

A miscontruction of the doctrine. If you die unrepentant, you were never saved. “Once saved always saved” refers to a true conversion, not a false one.

I don’t know this man’s ultimate end and I hope he finds repentance. Murder is not the unforgiveable sin. I am so glad his wife was spared.
