“13 Hours by Air” (1936) is an old favorite.

What about “Spirit of St. Louis” (1957), even though Jimmy Stewart was WAY too old to be playing Lindbergh?

They are used to provide lift to the aircraft, but there’s no time to talk about that now.

Guy who made the list must have a drinking problem. :)

All kidding aside, I quote Airplane! more than any other movie I've ever seen. Just thinking of it makes me smile.

He was terrific in that role. Still rather charming by the time of “The A-Team,” but hard living had taken its toll.

“Midway” had lots of planes in it ...

Interesting movie. Problem is that it would NOT work.

The pilot for the version they built (in a real airplane workshop) crashed it and died.

For the most part, a stunningly lame list. Off the top of my head, Flight of the Phoenix, No Highway in the Sky, Dr. Strangelove (the Slim Pickens parts), The Lost Squadron, Only Angels Have Wings (”Calling Barranca. Calling Barranca.”) and The Spirit of St. Louis.

I like the movies you list, but my memories go back to others not even there.

Flying Tigers,
Twelve O’clock High
633 Squadron
The Dam Busters
Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo

and so on.

I always figured it was pretty much fantasy. It did bother me that the passengers were on the wing where they would kill a lot of lift.

that is my number one... The Spirit of St. Louis... and second on my list is Flight Angels (1940), a cheesy movie about pilots and stewardesses with a very young Jane Wyman...

How about Strategic Air Command starring Jimmy Stewart. While acting is good but not extraordinary there’s shots of the B-36 that are. If you’re a plane buff this is a must watch.

Reminds me of one of the times Robert Klein did a stand up routine on the Tonight Show, when Johnny Carson was host. He said, ever notice in those old airplane movies when the plane looks like it’s gonna crash and the pilot miraculously makes a safe landing and everyone on board survives, all the passengers cheer. What do they do if it crashes, BOO?!?
