Woman Pays Entire Pay Check for Propane Heating Bill
WZZM ^ | February 27, 2014 | Alex Shabad

According to state numbers, the price per gallon skyrocketed from just over $2 in October to nearly $4 per gallon earlier this month. WZZM 13 spoke to one woman who says it takes her entire monthly income to pay the heating bill.

$741 is a number Evonne Appel's been paying close attention to this winter. "My income is the minimum of the minimum," she says. Appel's monthly income is not even enough to pay the heating bill. "Between $600 and $800, that's my whole check."

Like many who use propane for heat, Appel has dealt with skyrocketing prices. "It's been a terrible winter," she says.

So for the past few weeks, Appel's added electric heaters to the living room and bathroom, as well as kerosene heaters. Kerosene heaters are less pricey for her budget, but she says more costly for her health. "When you blow your nose you get black in your nose," says Appel.

She says just because one bill goes up, doesn't mean the others go down. "I don't even have gas money to go to doctors appointments," says Appel. "In August, I was in and out of the hospital and still have issues, so to deal with that and to have to figure this out just makes it hard."

Appel says she'd all but run out of options when last week she learned of a non profit group, the Community Action Agency, which supplied her with another month and a half of propane. The organization helps low-income residents pay their heating bills.

"It was $1,359 and they filled it," says Appel. Now, Appel's back to doing the math. "200 gallons lasts 26 days," says Appel. She's hoping that careful spending and some warmers days ahead will get her through this brutal winter.

The only good news about propane prices is that they've come down a little bit since the beginning of the month. However, they're still at $3.34 a gallon.

Well, it took my entire Social Security check to cover my heating bill last month (natural gas and electricity). Luckily I have a husband and a business that I can tap for other expenses. I’ve taken no income from my business for 3 years, but I do tap it for ememrgencies (like the heating bill).

Gas down the street is going for $3.60 a gallon, twice what it was for before Obambi moved into our White House. Notice the total silence from the libtards and the RINOs.

If this happened under Bush, there’d be congressional committee meetings every day and excess profit taxes flying all over.

Something to consider with regards to climate change. Would you rather be warmer or colder? I postulate that global cooling is far deadlier than global warming.

Here is another stupid reason:

The Jones Act, a 94-year-old law that prohibits non-U.S. ships from transporting cargoes between the country’s ports. With pipelines full and not a single eligible propane tanker to deliver fuel from Houston to states such as New York, consumers have had to pay more than $100 a metric ton extra for propane from across the Atlantic.

Gas here in Redding California was just $3.33 two weeks ago. It is now $3.62. Rippoff is what is constantly happening by keeping what our people need to daily move about, in a manipulated commodities market. Easily moved up for no reason other than what MIGHT occur to supplies. No other item is so manipulated for profit. Evil.

Early last month it was at $6.00/gallon where we are in WI.
Thankfully we were able to use the fireplace to offset the fuel consumption and hold out for awhile.
It’s now down to $3.00/gallon, so $600 for half a tank.

Kerosene heaters are less pricey for her budget, but she says more costly for her health. "When you blow your nose you get black in your nose," says Appel.

1. The price of kerosene has been driven from $1.75 a gallon in the middle 2000s to $4.25+ a gallon by the crazed govthug weenies in the EPA. I was spot-heating with a kerosene heater and making out quite nicely compared to natural gas back then.

2. A properly adjusted kerosene heater produces NO soot. However, ever since the crazed govthug weenies in the EPA forced the peasantry to go low-sulfur K-1, it's been REALLY, REALLY hard to keep the wicks from get water-soaked quickly (~ a month or so, compared to a full season). Once the wick is soaked, you get soot burns. My INFORMED viewpoint (having used K-1 as a major source of winter heat) is that the crazed govthug weenies in the EPA basically obsoleted 90%+ of the kerosene heaters in the US with their new BullSqueezings regulations 5-6 years ago.

3. It was REALLY NICE spot-heating with kerosene. The EPA's flying monkeys can EABODADIAF. A kerosene fire.

You must also remember that the corn farmers used a lot of propane to dry their corn this season, in order to produce ethanol to screw up our gasoline supply.
