On Ukraine, One Difference Between Russia and the USA

In contemplating the outfall of the Ukraine situation, notwithstanding the merits of the contestants -- quite frankly I have not taken the time to sort it out -- given the postures of the two "leaders" of the US and Russia, especially given Soetero's preemptive capitulation, one thing has become crystal clear.

Their President is a Putin.

Our President is a putz.

We need a no-holds-barred cage match between Obama and Putin. One that would end with Obama’s entire body matching the purple shade of his lips, and the grand finale of Putin shoving a rainbow-flag up Obama’s posterior.

Another difference. Putin loves his country.

What’s the difference between Putin invading to protect Russians who emigrated to Ukraine over the centuries and Mexico invading to protect its citizens who wandered over in the past few decades and became a majority? We are going to end up handing back the southwest for the same reasons.

Oh, I was not implying any admiration for Putin. Another way of saying it is Putin is a thug committed to enhancing his nation, while our Putz is a thug committed to harming his.

Neither is admirable, but it does not take a genius wagering handicapper to figure out how things are going to go. IMHO both men will be successful in their goals. Putin will reestablish the Russian Empire, and the Putz will inflict damage to the USA from which it will never recover.

What comes after that is anyone’s guess, but I have already turned my attentions to living in a post-American world. I am not a pessimist by nature, but I am not oblivious to reality either.

If only Putin didn’t love other people’s countries so much that he keeps having to invade them.

The Mexicans here don't have their own autonomous region to come and protect if the rest of the USA decided to make changes to it.

You’re not getting the analogy. The US is in a position similar to the Ukraine. The southwest is similar to the areas of the Ukraine where the ethnic Russians are. Russians were shipped there to dilute the Ukrainian population, and that seems to be happening in the southwest with Mexicans. Mexicans call this area “Aztlan” and claim it was wrongly taken from Mexico. Mexico moving in to take it back, on a claim that it was protecting Mexican citizens, would be no different than Russia moving into the Ukraine to protect Russians (who Russia sent there). Keep going down the path we are going, and that area is going to split away at some point, and may even become a protectorate of Mexico.

Your analogy doesn't fit since we don't have a section of the US which is officially designated as an "autonomous region" like Crimea is. Plus, Crimea has been essentially Russian since the 18'th century. Furthermore, we don't have a region full of Mexicans which is also host to several Mexican military bases and sea ports.

I'm getting that you are pro-Russian in its claim for territory from Ukraine. I am understanding of the Russian position on this; Crimea was not historically part of Ukraine. It just disturbs me that Russia feels strong enough to do it given Obama's weakness. It's the kind of thing in this day and age that should be handled diplomatically.

In addition, I am mindful that nations have used their ethnic brethren for land grabs and soft invasions, such as HItler's Germans in eastern Europe, or Muslims in the Balkans taking a piece of Serbia. That tactic could be used against us someday. Mexicans are closing in on a majority in California, and will be a majority someday in Arizona and New Mexico. It seems far-fetched now, but I am looking ahead several decades, when Obama's destruction of the US has borne fruit, and the breakdown leads to all kinds of possibilities, including regional entities emerging.

Yes, there are some differences between eastern Ukraine and the Southwest, but the analogy holds. The southwest was Mexican. We took it. Now, they are repopulating it, and may try to take it back someday. Their claim to it is as good as Russia's to the Ukraine. So, support Russia and be ready to support Mexico or Aztlan.

No, actually I'm pretty neutral on the whole topic. I just don't think it's the same situation as Mexicans in the southern part of our country, that's all. We can agree to disagree on that point.
