The article didn’t mention it, but since the boy and his family are Cajun I’d suspect that fish might make for one big ol’ fish fry ... and just in time for Lent!

Great catch for the kid but in all honesty eating something that big having lived in the lower part of the Mississippi river for as long as it took that fish to get that big is probably loaded with toxins.

Big fish make a great picture, but the smaller ones are much tastier.

Heck of a job for a 12-yo. My grandfather hauled in a 112 lb catfish from the Missouri river at Jefferson City in 1898 when he was 12. He was a lifetime fisherman and he always said that it was the hardest fish he ever landed.

Bad headline. When it comes to fishing, there is a difference between catching and snagging.

Based on my grandfathers’ description and his rememberance all his life I would bet he’ll be telling his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. That’s a pretty dense fish, definitely heavy. My grandfather said he fought with it several hours and it was as big as he was.

If you go to the article it says he was using shad for bait sounds like catching to me.

That is what I was saying. He didn't snag the fish. A lot of states will not give you a record if you snag the fish.

That's probably bigger than he is.

I've caught catfish (Flathead) before, although the ones here aren't like the south. I've caught a couple of big trout and some big red snapper and bluefish on the ocean back in the day.

But this is over 4 times the biggest fish I've caught. I tip my hat to this kid.
