To protect endangered rodents, a Florida sanctuary will trap cats found on its land. Pets can be retrieved, but feral cats will likely be euthanized.

While woodrats and cotton mice fall prey to native predators like snake and owls, Cove says the cats present a unique challenge.

So how many of these "fine, protected" rats are being killed by cats vs their natural enemies?

But it's easier to go and kill the cats for daring to catch rodents...

Feral cats deserve sanctuaries also.

Without cats, the rodent population would explode.

Rodents carry several nasty diseases.

Too many people have cat hatred, which they try to mask as concern for wildlife. I don’t care how much they try to rationalize it, it is still recognizable.

Rodents are the LAST species that needs "protection".

Sanctuary? Please.

I have to laugh.

Our outdoor kitteh that adopted us, a neutered semi-feral guy, was given a black catnip mousie discarded swiped from our spoiled indoor Siamese. He loves it to death.

Perhaps in thanks, a day or two later, he left a large, dead, black rat in the back lawn for us to admire.

We praised him effusively of course. That is the job of an outdoor cat.

Absolutely! I’m against the shooting or killing of any cat or cats.

Cat hatred is almost as endemic as snake hatred....it’s totally irrational and I see examples of it quite frequently...like when I was rebuked for feeding a feral cat recently.

"The first time we capture a cat..."

will be the only time. A cat won't fall for the cat trap trick twice.

A cat won't fall for the cat trap trick twice.

Several years ago, we moved into a neighborhood that had a feral cat in residence. She had a litter of kittens, which disappeared. It turns out our neighbor had trapped them and was keeping or finding other homes for them.

On her next litter, we borrowed a trap from the neighbor. I set cat food in the trap for several days to get her used to eating in the trap. Then, one day, I armed the trap. She was smart, she stepped over the trigger plate and sat down to eat. One of her kittens, however, was not so smart and bounced right onto the trigger plate. Within a few days, the whole family was fixed and vaccinated.

Apparently, after she was fixed, she decided to move in with the neighbor. We kept the three kittens, who are now 9 years old. The girls are a bit skittish, but the boy is the sweetest little fellow imaginable.

Liberals all insist on picking life’s winners and losers. Even among animals. And, all with no regard to unintended consequences.

Most people are so ignorant and cruel. Cats were born with sharp claws, keen eye site, hunting and climbing skills because ‘they were meant to be outside’. God created them to kill vermin and they also happen to be the best pets in the world. I’d like to figure out a way to exterminate all people who harm cats in this world, because they prove they are a danger to society.
