SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) Thousands of pieces of mail went up in flames early Tuesday morning after a United States Postal Service truck caught fire in Orange County.
The fire, which fully engulfed the big rig, started just after 1:30 a.m. near North Lamber Road on the 57 Freeway in Santa Ana, the California Highway Patrol said.
Witnesses said the truck appeared to explode as it was traveling down the freeway.
It took firefighters about an hour to get the fire under control.
No injuries were reported and it was unclear how the fire was sparked.
The big rig was not involved in a collision.
Oh, the junk mail!
So much for Mohammed Akbar’s mail order chemistry set.
Typical sloppy reporting.
Was it the truck (tractor) or the trailer that ‘appeared to explode’?
Someone just reported the truck contained a large quantity of silicone headed to the Los Angeles area.
The entire trailer filled with IRS refund checks.
What an incredible coincidence!
More Rose Law Firm billing records, no doubt.
You, Sir (or Madame), are why I LOVE Free Republic!
(Am a postal worker but can’t resist):
“Neither rain nor snow nor dead of night... but that don’t say nothin’ about fires!”
It had a shipment of new Jimi Hendrix stamps on board

Oh the humanity!!
How much is Cali going to fine the USPS for the pollution and global warming created?
It was unclear how the fire was sparked. The movie up in smoke comes to mind.
