How about the guys that bought it out of bankruptcy? Didn’t that work out well for them?

The Thing had a great run in other countries, the safety regulations killed it (and later the Beetle) in the US.

That is a familiar story!

I am willing to bet that has been the fate of MANY consumer products.

When a bunch of insiders can bring in federal contracts to guarantee a revenue stream — yeah, I suppose it’s been a qualified success since then. But let’s remember, this was supposed to be a consumer product, not a niche product handling government communications.

I know Tandy was one of them. I can't remember who the other one was, but it seems like it was somone you'd normally associate with telecom equipement.

You hit the nail on the head... Tandy sold an MCA system. The other was ALR. And they marketed a "Dual Bus" system that had both MCA and ISA busses (I don't think it was EISA). Both were fully functional, and could operate at the same time.

I actually lost a lot of weight on SizzleLean. Long before I knew anything about low carb dieting, I would eat that stuff, stirfried in a non-stick pan, I think, with some vegetables and soy sauce, for dinner. It got a little boring, but it worked.

:)
