Get her in a warm car.

Or at least let her stand inside the school building within reach of the door, and "deem" her exited. Morons.

My school was a big sprawling 1 story affair. One end could have burned to ash without affecting classes at the other end.

Fire drill, so possibly a fire. What better, safer place to be than in a pool full of......water.

Except that most fire deaths are from smoke inhalation, rather than burning.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

Do that as a home school parent and you'd be in jail and your kids in foster care so fast your head would spin.

Where are the criminal charges for these dolts who did this?

““Academics” are often the most narrow-minded, bureaucratic, and obtuse people you will ever meet.

It seems to be a paradox, but the times have given it proof.”

My wife is a teacher, and we see it all the time.

You’d be shocked, or maybe you wouldn’t, at how little academics there actually are at the core of most academics.

People without ability of any sort, hiding behind the activity of obfuscating subjects that are generally simple and beautiful if approached in an organized manner.

This case is bad news. The teachers didn't bring the girl into a car that would've provided heat because "it was against the rules until they had permisssion".

I'm the one who's always defending teachers here. But this one is child abuse. At that point you say "screw the rules" and bring the bathing-suit clad girl into the car. Explain yourself later.

I've actually done that, girl in gym clothes in a fire drill. The teacher does not put their job ahead of the health of that child....ever.

If any person within the public school system used their judgement in variance with “policy”, they are then personally accountable for that decision.

As it is, they can say they were just following orders and won’t be held accountable.

Sickening. But this is what our amoral society has led to.

I reviewed the required courses for teacher ed a few times and the prerequisites. The words “common sense” were never mentioned.

The was a course in zero tolerance and blind acceptance of all rules 100% of the time.

“Except that most fire deaths are from smoke inhalation, rather than burning.”

And some of the chemicals emitted by the combustion are heavier than air and settle to the surface of the water.

Then there is the roof collapsing, and electrocution to consider.

If its Minnesota, how hard would it be to have blankets available for stuff like this.

For crying out loud, this wasn’t a fire drill.

It was a real fire alarm, but there just wasn’t much of a fire.

That said, the skool offishuls are complete idiots, and they are probably too stupid to learn from the lawsuit that will surely follow.

They are training our children and follow orders rather then have a free thought and ability to make decisions.

Or to arrange to bring a school bus over to put the kids into in bad weather? Even in spring, if they have to stand outside in a rainstorm, kids are going to get hypothermia.

“All authority has been taken from the teachers and they have been taught to blindly follow orders. The result is stupidity squared.”

One teacher gave her a jacket. Unauthorized gift to student?

I got some flak for my comment - from teachers who felt I insulted them, but you know exactly what I mean.

I find it particularly with administrators - internal politics seems to be their main role, and they also feel they need to latch on to some obtuse, grand education “theory” to do their job - and are often quite biased in their views, because their ideas are never challenged by reality.

or just have the kid stand inside the door 6 feet?

If you see fire roaring down the hall, then step outside.

Many “academics” lack basic common sense.

Many “academics” lack basic common sense.

It's the government bureaucracy.

Follow policy which defies common sense: you are safe, regardless.

Disobey policy and do what's common sense: you risk being fired or disciplined if ANYBODY dislikes any aspect of the outcome.

The school district issued a statement saying only that it routinely reviews such policies.
. . . and I make no doubt that they will not-so-routinely be reviewing this case with their lawyer.
