They're already called 'vertically challenged' - but are short people intellectually challenged too?

They are already cursed with the rather unflattering label of ‘vertically challenged’. Now experts say short people may also be intellectually challenged too - or at least in comparison to their taller counterparts. A new study has found a link between IQ and height, suggesting that those who are shorter are on average more likely to be less intelligent. Academics identified genes that influence both height and IQ, and said there was a ‘significant genetic correlation’ between the two factors.

I’m doubtful about this “genetic correlation” they propose. Did they control for the fact that malnourishment affects both height and IQ negatively?

Horizontally too.

Given the average intelligence of NBA players I think this study is “flawed”.

An IQ score does not represent overall intelligence.

Correlation is not causation.

I have found the opposite to be true.

Tall people get social advantages of being tall, so they get lazy mentally. They can get by being tall so their mind gets lazy.

Furthemore, I find the view from above to be a view that is easier to analyze situations. And the view from below to be more challenging. So I think tall people’s minds are again less challenged.

Furthermore, I think tall people can move their legs slower to go the same distance. Slow moving legs would tend to produce slow moving brain reaction time.

I have made similar observations.

I also note that, on the evening news, the county's most wanted criminals are rarely under 6'.

I’m only 4’10”. Despite my lack of height, I am definitely more intelligent than my 6’6” ex-husband.

We have two neighbor ladies that are no taller than you, and smarter than most. Yep, they are both cute blonds too.

When I went to Indonesia two years ago, I was the tallest person in the country.

Likewise, when I was in Korea for four months in 1988, I did not see anyone as tall as me. But now, I would guess that a number of the next generation of Koreans are as tall.

In the Philippines I would be walking down a crowded sidewalk and spot a guy up ahead who was big by their standards. We would pass and he would look up at me and you could see his big attitude leave him.

So let me get this straight.

A genetic trait accounts for your height, be it tall or short. If you are short you may be dumber that your tall counterpart.

A genetic trait accounts for your race, be it Asian or African. If you are Asian you may be (on average) more intelligence...

I was taught that in the USA it was illegal to draw any conclusions about any attributes of any human based on any criteria????

Now I’m really confused?

Height does not equal strength.

Short guy has a lower center of gravity which can be an advantage in a fight.

well, I hate to break it to you, but I’m 6’2 and last time I wrote a bloody test, I scored a mark of 134.

However, I cannot attest to the validity of this research as I know plenty of folks who are a just a hair shorter than me, and they’re still smart too :P
