FULL TITLE: It’s ‘not fair’ that insurance doesn’t have to pay for my abortion, woman testifies in Washington

OLYMPIA, WA, March 4, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Health insurance companies in Washington state currently have the right to choose not to pay for abortion. But one post-abortive woman testified on Monday that as far as she's concerned, “That's not fair.”

Christine Kocsis, who paid for her own abortion in New York seven years ago, urged legislators to support the “Reproductive Parity Act” during a hearing on Monday. The bill would require any insurance company that covers prenatal care for expectant mothers to also pay for abortion. Christine Kocsis, left, pleads her case. Kocsis admitted the issue did not apply in her situation, because “I didn't have insurance then.” But she added, “I cannot imagine if I had been in that place in my life, and I had been paying for insurance and found out it would only cover me if I carried my pregnancy to term.”

“That's not fair," she said emphatically.

But social conservatives and free marketeers say it is unfair to compel a business owner, especially a religious one, to cover abortion under penalty of law.

Sen. Randi Becker, R-Eatonville, successfully blocked the bill last year. Some of her constituents have opted to go uninsured in order to avoid indirectly subsidizing abortion. They deserve to be covered, Becker said.

“We can't take that choice away,” Sen. Becker added.

Kocsis' words came as part of a panel presentation before 11 Democratic state senators, who called an ad hoc hearing that they alone attended.

“For everything the Affordable Care Act has to offer,” state Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler said, “it does not guarantee women full access to all reproductive services, specifically abortion.”

Others who spoke on Monday included Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest, the National Organization for Women (NOW), the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the Community Abortion Information and Resource Project (a member of the National Network of Abortion Funds, which hosts an annual bowl-a-thon to raise money for abortion). The state chapters of NARAL and the ACLU have also backed the bill.

The debate is likely to continue, as it has the last several years. The state House passed the bill last year by a 53-43 margin and again this year, 54-44. But the Senate Majority Coalition Caucus, comprised of 24 Republicans and two Democrats, did not bring the bill up for a vote.

It is expected to die in the Senate again this year, although Democratic Governor Jay Inslee has promised to sign the bill if it lands on his desk.

Lisa M. Stone, the executive director of the pro-abortion law group Legal Voice, said last year the bill had to pass.

“We need to ensure that Washington maintains its values,” she said.

Lady, if you want to choose not to use contraceptives, it is not fair to expect ME to pay for your abortion. Don't expect others to pay for YOUR irresponsibility.

I bet the cost of that abortion would have paid for a LOT of contraceptives.

I never watch Rachel Madcow..but tuned it to laugh at their spin on the Cummings outburst today during Lerner will she, won’t she testify circus.
Instead, their lead story is about TX new law taking effect re:abortions.
I knew these people were sick but OMG! Madcow is practically in tears because there’s only one clinic now in some TX border town & bunch of sob stories about women losing their right to abort. There’s some clinic employee whining about how short staffed they are & unfair that women have to wait longer for their abortion & some have no choice but to go across the border to get it done.
Unreal..
I feel like throwing up...

Sorry Christine but the debate about your abortion was probably 20 or 30 years ago. Somebody decided not to do it.

Why should health insurance companies have to cover the services of hitmen?

Seriously, these people need to be more consistent. Either abortion should be banned, or should be legal until the fetus is his own legal guardian. No ifs, ands, or buts.

“Reproductive Parity Act”. Is that what we call murder these days? Your honor, I did not shoot that f’ing liberal dead, I was merely reproducing parity into society post their birth.

Wouldn’t it be fair if, as a man, I had the govt pay for an abortion on the girl I knocked up whether she wanted it or not?

Yes, yes it is.

Diabetes is a major health problem in the USA.
Multiple millions of people are entirely dependent on insulin injections, just to continue to live.

Insulin is not “free” under any insurance plan.

Why would we as a society decide to provide free contraception to ourselves instead of free insulin?

Follow the money....

Once again the leftist death-worshipers prove that they are not only anti-Christ, but insist that everyone else be as well.

I can’t imagine that someone who had an abortion would think that it was such a good thing to do that they would be championing the cause 7 years later.

makes me think that what is really going on is that this woman has never forgotten the horror of what she had done, thinks about it every day, and since she cannot change that fact, has convinced herself that she is a champion of the cause of abortion and all these associated issues.

Elective boob jobs aren't covered either, unless the patient is in need of reconstructive surgery.

Nor are nose jobs, absent medical reconstructive needs following serious traumatic injury.

Every “abortion” that was absolutely medically required to save the physical life of a woman, was already covered by all insurance policies that included OB/GYN coverage.

Those medical conditions requiring induced abortion to save the life of a mother are rare, and tragic.

“Elective boob jobs aren’t covered either, unless the patient is in need of reconstructive surgery.”

Actually that’s not true. There’s a force by obamacare to pay for transwhatever gender surgery. So yea boob jobs are covered.
