SHTF Lessons From Venezuela

So the people of all classes now find themselves in a situation in which electric power is no longer reliable, blackouts are common, and diseases that were eliminated are returning. Inflation can run up to 50% per month, rendering the Bolivar fiat currency nearly worthless. Since the government had forcefully expropriated (through the Venezuelan socialist version of eminent domain) huge tracts of productive domestic livestock and then given it "to the poor" who didn't know how to farm it, domestic food production crashed. Food was then imported, using dollars. Once inflation soared, the government clamped down on the ability to purchase dollars. This had repercussions throughout the economy. Nearly all medicines are imported, bought with dollars. Hospitals and clinics are now almost completely devoid of medicines. Patients with chronic diseases, such as diabetes or heart disease, cannot get their medicines. Cancer patients cannot receive treatment and are dying. Food supplies are dwindling and what food there is has become expensive. Shop shelves are bare, and long lines form whenever food becomes available.

Given the stock as Costco, we’ll starve before toilet paper becomes a problem.

Keep pinging Kart. More interesting than hearing about Putin shoving Barky’s head in the toilet of the boys bathroom. :-)

Yes, but I think if they want to take large tracts of land away from some, and give it to idiots, they must have a successful major gun grab first. I would hope well armed citizens would not let this happen. These people should not consent to be moved off their land, come Hell or high water.

To me, the worst situation for the people is hospitals are running out of medicines and people can't get blood pressure meds or diabetic meds, or cancer treatment and no meds of any kind means necessary operations stop. No medicine means many more deaths. That type death is coming right at you and you don't have to be protesting to drop dead due to no meds.

No reliable water also means sickness and possible death from polluted water. Plus, no water also means death.

If that happens here, millions will die just as they are going to die there and no weapons caused the deaths.

I researched and wrote an article on Survival Podcast some time ago about where our medicines come from. I'll look that up and post it here tomorrow.

That’s right. I don’t think the bitter clingers are gonna just hand over their guns, religion or land. Not out here in the heartland.

I think we all better brush up on some medicinal herbs and food as pharmaceuticals too.

Americans are the most well armed free people in the world. That is an important distinction. One that the “brownshirts” will encounter, should the same tactic be used on us.

IMO (and most others I’m guessing) the real unknown is the boiling point of the citizenry. It must be high considering the repressive nature of our government and press and no outright rebellion has yet happened. Will it be reached before it is too late?

We aren’t seeing it on the news, but the situation in Greece regarding medications if horrific.

I keep an 18 month supply of my heart meds on hand at all times. As well as several courses of Cipro in the fridge. And two tubes of prescription AB ointment designed for MRSA.

If the SHTF we will lose millions of people in a big hurry for lack of medications.

We should not doubt for a minute that our government would use access to medicine as a weapon to subdue the populace.

“I think we all better brush up on some medicinal herbs and food as pharmaceuticals too.”

Remember, I bought that good book written by a doctor at MD Anderson in Houston, about exactly what herbs did what and what quantity was needed to get the medical effect.

I need to go back to that book to see which herb plants I don’t have that I need to get. I’ll do that tomorrow, too, after I copy and post the article I wrote on where our medicines come from.

If it ever comes down to that, just make a list and take what you need from the hospitals and clinics...and banks.
