The Dalai Lama has voiced his support for gay marriage and condemned homophobia, saying that sex is fine as long as it is consensual.
Speaking during an interview with American talk show host Larry King, the Buddhist monk said that gay marriage was okay and a personal matter.
He said: "If two people, a couple, really feel that way, its more practical, more satisfaction, and both sides fully agree, then okay!

Whoope. How wonderful. Do indeed a sarc tag
Don’t be misled. Most Buddhists in their homelands find this behavior disgusting. This guy has just been influenced by his contact with the west. Sad.
Just another useful tool then.
Golly gee, Dolly!
Hard to have any sympathy for him. If he had Tibet an independent state, it would just be turned into his utopian nuthouse with bathhouses everywhere.
If I had my old clippings I would show it, but the Dali Lama has things he doesn’t approve of, such as American Evangelical Christianity which he has pointed out as the enemy of universal truth and harmony.
The Dali Lama is a religious leader for the left, as evidenced by his and Buddhism’s popularity among the left.
On whether same-sex marriage should be universally accepted, he said: "Thats up to the countrys law.
And the Dalai Lama added that people should still follow their own religions rules on spirituality.
People who have belief or who have special traditions, then you should follow according to your own tradition. Like Buddhism, there are different kinds of sexual misconduct, so you should follow properly.
Homosexuality is one of those kinds of sexual misconduct.
That’s odd, my teacher has said “it is not possible for a liberal to practice the Dharma.”
I’ve seen old articles and threads where he expresses his approval of Marxism.
It’s true and he means it. :)
Well, Old Buddha was a man and I'm sure that he meant well But I pray for his disciples lest they wind up in hell And I'm sure that old Mohammed thought he knew the way But it won't be Hare Krishna we stand before on The Judgment Day. No, it won't be old Buddha that's sitting on the throne And it won't be old Mohammed that's calling us Home And it won't be Hare Krishna that plays that trumpet tune And we're going to see The Son not Reverend Moon! Well, I don't hate anybody so please don't take me wrong But there really is a message to this simple song You see there's only one way Jesus if eternal life is your goal Meditation of the mind won't save your soul. No, it won't be old Buddha that's sitting on the throne And it won't be old Mohammed that's calling us Home And it won't be Hare Krishna that plays that trumpet tune And we're going to see The Son, not Reverend Moon! Well, you can call yourself a Baptist and not be born again A Presbyterian or a Methodist and still die in your sin You can even be Charismatic shout and dance and jump a pew But if you hate your brother you won't be one of The Chosen Few. Cause it won't be a Baptist that's sitting on The Throne A Presbyterian or a Methodist that's calling us Home And it won't be a Charismatic that plays that trumpet tune So let's all just live for Jesus 'cause He's coming back real soon.Oh Buddha - The Imperials
I’m having a problem with conflicting...........that is a troubling image.
I’ve heard enough from this pampered little turd who has never done anything of value in his useless life.
Another nut not unlike Desmond Tutu. These guys are Hollywood tools of Richard Gere types
Put one of your hands over your right eye.
He is but more importantly his Dharma is solid.
He is not a guy who holds up well when one starts looking at him closely.
The Dali lama is just another political figure whose personal integrity doesn’t hold up under close scrutiny, the fact that he and the left portray him as some sort of supernatural religious figure, pushes him into the category of evil exploiter and user, into the anti-God column.
Dalai probably makes it with the Lama, so what does he know anyway?
What a moron when a personal matter becomes political it’s not personal anymore..
The Dalai is missing a few bricks from his load..
Is this the Dalai that got his poop packed by the chinese?..
The Dalai is famous for being famous.. maybe he could marry Kim Kardashian..
Hey a little boot black on his face, he might “pass”..
I’d rather hear what comes out of the right half of the pic than the left.
Although what comes out of the left is what is pictured on the right. Liberal POS that she is.
The Dalai Lama is a coward. Some years ago, he expressed the traditional Buddhist critique of homosexuality and - to his surprise - was slammed by his Western devotees, many of whom are gay. But he knows who butters his bread, and now - guess what? - he is pro-gay. He is not a wise man or a holy man, but a very shrewd pragmatist.
I can’t respond, too many jokes come out of that post about which eye.
25 years practicing Tibetan Buddhism.
I never had any respect for this guy, and my opinion is based on actual knowledge of him and his. He’s been corrupted and co-opted by the Left, falling easy prey to the lure of celebrity idolization.
His teachers and the overall tradition certainly never supported homosexuality. The scriptures are quite clear about this.
Something that I can probably find is an old description by an assistant of Mahatma Gandhi in the 1950s where he describes how Gandhi kept the most expensive “humble” menu possible.
The assistant described spending a fortune on many hours in taxis, on many days during the US visit, so that he could search NYC to find the pure and natural (and rare and expensive at the time) ingredients for Gandhi’s “humble” meals that he insisted on, to maintain his Gandhi simpleness.
Legends are often developed out of hope and myth.
I have the same admiration for ol’ Moe Gandhi as I do for Mikey Luther King aka Junior.
I politely assumed....
Wow, that is a powerful statement.
Do you have a summary on the status and future of Tibet or can you link us to a thread or articles on it that you think are informative?
He looks good in rags... Makes a 2 dollar tshirt obscene ;)
Arghhhh, my subtle and restrained, Texas humor vault is close to exploding.
Instead of Alice, how about ACIEEEEDDD!!!
That's just a llama with bigguns.

Let it rip.
Now WHY oh WHY does it not surprise me an iota that you know of Die Antwoord. ;)
” Most Buddhists in their homelands find this behavior disgusting.”
I think it would be correct that most are not homosexual, but I wonder where you get your information that they find this behavior disgusting. Certainly the Thai Buddhists (80 to 90% of Thais) are very tolerant of gay people. Patong hosts a gay parade each year. Gays and “ladyboys” are regulars on Thai TV soaps. Gay marriage is permitted. I think the Dalai Lama’s attitude is typical of the Asian Buddhists I have known.
No, I’m sorry. I don’t much keep up with what is going on in Tibet anymore.
Most recently, I recall following some article a few years back about the Chinese flooding the streets with observers to cut down on a new rash of self immolations by monks, but I don’t know what happens there now.
When I was there, I was impressed that Westerners, especially the Left, romanticized the people and their culture and history almost beyond belief, but that’s not too surprising really.
Certain FReepers have been a very bad influence on me.
dittos!!!! Dali Lama has turned into a space case, seduced by his liberal acolytes here and Europe. He is a hippie these days
(I am sure he started off good)
Free your mind Sal...or destroy it ;)
I think you're freaky, and I like you a lot!
Who’s he gonna get married to? Richard Gere?
Thais are so tolerant of the gheys that there is even much sex tourism to their country.
I just watched 5 Die Antwoord vids and came back to that.
My head hurts.
