Thank you, Vladimir Putin!
It won't be apparent immediately, but Mr. Putin has done the United States a great favor. No longer is the United States under the strictures and tyranny of the United Nations and so-called international law. Mr. Putin has exposed the fact that any permanent member of the UN Security Council can unilaterally resolve its international disputes and grievances and block any UN interference with its veto. Russia's actions in Ukraine show the way to getting rid of nuisances like Asshat in Syria (and then any successor regime not in America's interests), the Castro brothers in Cuba and eventually others like North Korea's. No more diplomatic wrangling for months and years like over Iraq's So Damn Insane.
Of course, we will first have to get rid of the Obama regime in the United States in order to take advantage of the way shown to us by V. Putin.
Syria will be a Utopia once al-Assad is out. /s
Just keep bombing until it is.
It was against international law for Kosovo to be granted independence from Serbia then too right?
It seems this is the precedent that applies for Crimea, with the Crimean parliament and its majority Russian populace voting to join Russia.
So either both Kosovo and Crimea moves are correct under international law,
or neither are correct (in which case we are equally guilty).

There was already a war and humanitarian crisis in Kosovo. Intervention was legitimized ex post facto by UNSCR 1244.
There was no excuse for an invasion of Ukraine, it violates existing status agreements and it will never be recognized under current conditions.
There’s nothing in that resolution that approves Kosovo being split off from the territory of Serbia.
In fact the exact opposite —
“Reaffirming the commitment of all Member States to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the other States of the region, as set out in the Helsinki Final Act and annex 2”
The international law situation for Kosovo and Crimea are exactly the same. “Do provinces whose majority populations wish to become independent or join another country have the right to do so?”
International law used to say no for both.
But the Kosovo precedent changed everything, and now means yes for both.
You can’t condemn Crimea’s right to leave Ukraine while supporting Kosovo’s right to leave Serbia under international law, if that law is objective and not just meaning whatever eurocrats want it to mean when it suits them.
Are you stupid or just being sarcastic?
That is how I see it also. We should be the last people to gripe about Russia emulating in Crimea what we did in Kosovo. At least the Russians are doing what they are doing to further an identifiable national interest and to get what has historically been a part of their country back. We did it to Serbia with no clear national interest at stake. As far as I can tell we did it just to build “street cred” with muslims.
The Ron Paulites and apologists for America’s enemies are out in force.
The Helsinki Final Act is not a treaty. And it didn’t figure on the independence of Croatia, Bosnia, Slovenia or Montenegro either. But Milosevic is responsible for screwing that up.
From The Case for Kosova, “UNSCR 1244’s affirmation of the sovereign rights and territorial integrity of the FRY with reference to Annex 2 weakens arguments claiming UNSCR 1244 precludes Kosovo independence. Annex 2 expressly places the respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the FRY within the context of the ‘interim political framework agreement providing substantial self-government for Kosovo’. Importantly, through its adoption of the Rambouillet Accords, Annex 2 envisions a final solution based on the will of the Kosovar people, not deference to the sovereignty or territorial integrity of the FRY.”
Or maybe they didn’t know what they were signing.
And when all else fails, I believe in ‘we win, you lose’ unless we really F’ed up. Nyaa.
Ron Paulista or just anti-American?
I think he is a sincere neocon or older cold warrior type.
Remember, neocons were fanatical about supporting Muslims against Christians in Kosovo, as well as in Bosnia, Armenia/Azerbaijan and Chechnya. Many conservatives back in the 80’s enthusiastically supported Muslim extremists and expansionists because they were anti-communist.
Supported Muslims against so-called Christians in Kosovo and Bosnia, where “Christian” = genocidal maniacs.
Supported Russia against Chechnya and support Armenians against everybody around them.
Cold War I (WWIII) ended in 1991.
Cold War II began in 2000 or 2001.
Chechnya & Kosovo in between.
Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice... and moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.
God is not a respecter of persons.
Sticks & Stones. Nyaa.
Anyone who supports Muslims conquering historically Christian lands is an enemy of Western Civilization and cannot be considered a conservative in any sense.
Then convert them. Islam is about land. Christianity isn’t. There is no such thing as Christian land. What profit a man to gain the whole world but lose his soul? The Kingdom is elsewhere and never forget that.
Also, conservatism and Christianity are not synonymous. You have to try to make them compatible and where they are not, the politics has to give. And that may mean helping people because they are people, not because they agree with you.
I’d appreciate a response if you have one.
That does not change anything I wrote before. We still had no business doing what we did and we set a bad precedent.
