Computer help viewing this site

Posted on 03/08/2014 6:15:50 PM PST by Java4Jay

Running Windows 7 with IE 11. On this site all the fonts are very small making it hard to read. Yes I can zoom to make it readable but that makes all the other sites too large. I'm logged in and tried using sidebar config but no joy. Help would be appreciated.

Not using Internet Exploder would be a good start. Plenty of other good alternate browsers out there; Firefox seems to top the list for most.

Not sure about IE 11, but with previous versions, you could select ‘view’ in the tool bar and select page and text resizing.

Internet Explorer uses the wrong character set when it renders an HTML page

FreeRepublic.com character set is Latin 1 aka Western Latin 1 aka Windows Latin 1 aka Western (Windows Latin 1).

The Microsoft kb928847 webpage says ...

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods [I've listed only 2 of their suggestions]:

Disable the Auto-Select setting in Internet Explorer.

Provide the character set in the HTTP headers.

Normally I have browser Menu Bar selected off. Selecting View, Text Size to Larger worked. Reset Zoom Level to 100% and all is good. Thank you!

(hold control while hitting the other key)

smaller: ctrl-
larger: ctrl+
reset back to default size: ctrl0

that last one is ctrl and the number zero, 0.

works in firefox, can’t speak for how well it will work in others.

I switched from IE to Chrome, on my son’s advice, and I couldn’t be any more pleased.

I assume java in your name is not because you program java.

I say buy a computer just to view this site and adjust the settings to your likings.

I like using my iPad to read because it zooms so easily but I rarely post from it.

I don’t use IE but normally, in the options or preferences of browsers, there’s a tab for adjusting/selecting fonts and how they’re displayed. You may even choose the option to have the web site display its fonts as intended or you may override that choice and choose your own font and size of display. If that doesn’t work, check the Personalization and choose Ease of Access Center. There’s a Magnification option that might help.
