Authorities are investigating after $600,000 in checks and cash was stolen from a safe at Pastor Joel Osteen's Houston megachurch, which has one of the largest congregations in the country.
Police spokesman Kese Smith said Tuesday $200,000 in cash and $400,000 in checks were stolen from a safe sometime between 2:30 p.m. Sunday and 8:30 a.m. Monday.

That was just the petty cash box.
So if I understand correctly, the “offering plate” is fully insured?
$600,000+ for one weekend, wow, and that's just the amount reported stolen.
But, the short-list of suspects should be quite short, like maybe one person if there are any controls, to have had access.
$600,000 take in one weekend. And that doesn’t even count book sales.
People give Olsteen their credit card numbers. I guess so he can grab some cash if he comes up a little short. What a fraud!
In a statement issued Monday, Lakewood Church said the money and checks taken, as well as some envelopes with written credit card information, were limited to funds given during this past weekend's Saturday and Sunday services.
LOL!
There’s more where that came from, as the late great Dr. Gene Scott would say, “now get on that telephone!”
Quite a haul, and the theft is nothing to sniff at...
What does it say about a church when the first person I would look into would be its senior pastor?
Gene was great when he got wound up.
I confess, I took the money. After it multiplies 100 fold I will return the initial cash along with an additional twenty percent. Please forgive me, and be patient.
That holy roller stuff must pay off, or as P.T. Barnum used to say: There's a sucker born every minute. Never mind....
He was THE BEST!
When mrs p6 went into labor with one of our 3 kids she was in a "family room" delivery room at the hospital...bed, couch, big TV, just like home.
But it was late at night on a weekend and the ONLY thing on TV was Dr Eugene Scott. For some reason it was a Scott Marathon all night.
She had never seen him but I had watched him before and enjoyed his...presentation.
So all night long during her labor she had to watch Dr Scott with the hat, cigar, black jacket, sunglasses ...and the ponies. Dr Scott loved the ponies and maybe that's why I, being somewhat of a harness racing fan, enjoyed watching him.
Out of our three children that delivery is the only one we like to reminisce about.
Grape juice is for closers!
I’m missing it???
So that’s 40,000 people giving an average of $15 each.
Not really out of line.
Lol
