The angry father was apparently alerted by the girl's younger brother around 2 a.m. after he saw two feet under her bed in his north Harris County home Thursday.
A Texas father fatally shot a 17-year-old boy he caught hiding in his 16-year-old daughter's bedroom early Thursday morning, deputies say.
The father was apparently alerted by the girl's younger brother around 2 a.m. after he saw two feet under her bed in their north Harris County home.
When the girl's dad confronted the teens, deputies say his daughter at first denied knowing who the boy was.
It was when the boy made a sudden move, as if to grab something, the 55-year-old man opened fire, shooting the boy once and killing him at the scene, said deputies.
Authorities say his daughter later told them she let the boy, who has not been publically identified, inside her bedroom.
Neighbors, who say the family recently moved in, were shocked by the tragedy.
"Oh my god! They just moved in here like a week ago. Literally a week ago," one neighbor told KHOU.
The neighbor described the family as extremely quiet, adding, "I never heard a peep out of them."
The girl's father was taken to a hospital after feeling sick. He's believed to suffer unrelated health problems, KHOU reported.
The shooting is being called an open and ongoing investigation by deputies who, as of Thursday evening, had not released the names of the victim or shooter.

Tough call. Daughter’s wrong. Dead kid is wrong. It’s the dad’s property and the dead kid was not welcome. But he...might be...wrong for killing the kid.
This certainly sends home the dad’s point that the boyfriend is not welcome.
A good beat-down for the kid, and a convent for the daughter, maybe. But shooting him? Seems a little harsh ...
Unless the kid threatened the dad in anyway an introduction to flight characteristics through a window might be an object lesson.
Is there a father on Earth who hasn’t voiced doing something like this should ever the situation have arisen?

So, you have a stranger in your house at 2AM; someone not known to your family (you have asked!) That stranger is within the most dangerous age bracket. This stranger is in close proximity to your daughter and to you. At this point you call 911 and continue watching the intruder, in case he attempts to hurt you or others.

If that "sudden move" theory can be confirmed, the father should walk. The intruder, even unarmed, could take the daughter hostage and threaten to break her neck with his bare hands. It's certainly possible, since the daughter denied knowing the boy.
You'd get the same treatment from a police officer if instead of staying in your car you jump out and rush toward the officer - to show him your license and registration, of course. There are situations when one must behave exactly as told, due to man-made or natural dangers.

Unless there is something surprising in evidence, I would vote not guilty. I also hope I would be able to hold back if it was my daughter.
It’s sad that the daughter has a 2:00 am guest a week after moving (I hope he’s an old boyfriend from before a short-distance move and not a guy she met in the week they lived there). It’s sad that that brother will feel guilty for snitching and destroying at least one life. It’s sad that the father may face trial. It’s sad that a scummy guy who would sneak into a house without the parents’ permission, and who richly deserves some serious consequences, got the ultimate consequence.
While it is quite possible that this was manslaughter out of anger, a split-second decision after a real or invented “cool, an excuse!” movement by the intruder, I doubt that a felony can be proven against the father, at least not beyond reasonable doubt, not in Texas.
A jury will have to decide.
the daughter said she didn’t know him. If there was a guy in my daughter’s bedroom and she told me she didn’t know him, I’d kill him too.
This dad is justified IMO.
Look, Texas gives a warning all the time to all people in this state who try to cause trouble and you know what it is: DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS. Evidently, the father thought the boy was grabbing a gun/whatever, and shot him. The kid should have been in his own house instead of hiding in this man’s house.
We have reached such a high level of lawlessness across this country, I don’t fault the father. You can say he should have known this or that, but in the heat of the moment, you may be dead if you don’t shoot. A time out cannot be called and the intruder be questioned as to why he is there - that will get you killed these days.
It is this way: if someone is in my house and I didn’t let the someone in, he is here to do me harm, and I’m shooting him and won’t stop until I know he is for sure not going to move. I am 5’5” and have small bones so I am not strong and don’t have the luxury of getting him in a headlock and asking why he is here.
Old Sarge knows me well enough to know I won’t miss - a red laser is attached to my handgun and it’s loaded with hollow point ammo.. So, when you come to my house, please ring the doorbell and read the door mat which states, “Come Back With A Warrant”.
