I was at an event about Downs the other night—by accident: I didn’t know what it was going to be about!
Thankfully, the moderator referred to the anguish of the parents and the sensitivity required in advising them about the best result for the child.
Also, one of the questioners at the end mentioned “romanticizing” the children.
I’m glad people are becoming aware of the complexity of the situation for the biological parents.
And by the way, there is a blood test now, which is then confirmed by CVS (chorionic villi sampling) if positive for Downs. Unfortunately, the test has resulted in more abortions. The test is obligatory in France, and someone mentioned proposed legislation in Denmark to attempt to eradicate the disease. This does not mean a better search for a cure. Apparently they think they can wipe it out by aborting all the babies, but they can’t, because it is not genetic.
Very Close. She didn’t want the child but she also didn’t want anyone else to have him.

One thing I’ve been told that is the best way to prevent Downs is for the mother to take lots of Vitamin B BEFORE she gets pregnant and to continue once she is. I am not sure which Vitamin B it is so just take the Multi-pac as Vitamin B is water soluble.
