A grand jury has indicted parents of an 11-year-old girl in West Virginia who were arrested after arranging for an abortion following a case of pregnancy after incest. West Virginia State Police say they consented to the abortion and the abortion clinic in question didnt report the abortion to authorities.
Michael and Amanda Adkins were arrested on charges of child neglect causing the risk of injury. While some licensed medical professionals were involved in getting information to authorities, WSAZ-TV indicates the abortion clinic in Charleston that did an abortion did not report the clear case of statadkinsutory rape.
On Wednesday, the grand jury added charges of incest, sexual assault and witness intimidation to the case. The indictment charges Michael Joe Adkins with incest, first-degree sexual assault and sexual abuse by a parent for alleged intercourse with his daughter, which impregnated the girl as the sexual activity continued after she became 12. He and the girls stepmother, Amanda Rea Adkins, also face counts of child neglect creating risk of injury and conspiracy as part of an abortion and subsequent procedure aimed at covering up the alleged incest.
The sexual assaults on the girl took place between October 2010 and February 2011 and then took the girl for an abortion after the incest impregnated her on March 1. They then subsequently got her a D&C on March 16.
A statewide newspaper provides additional details from its interview with West Virginia State Police Cpl. M. Moore:
The Ona couple, then 30, were indicted last spring with single counts of child neglect. This months indictment, unsealed Wednesday, added the allegations against Michael Adkins as well as counts of obstruction and witness intimidation against Amanda Adkins. It states she provided police false information and influenced her stepdaughter to keep quiet about the alleged abuse.
Moore credited recent disclosures by the victim with helping prosecutors secure the stronger indictment. She praised the childs recovery thus far, but described the road ahead as long. She referred to the March 2011 abortion as forced upon the child as she referred to it and other acts she endured at ages 11 and 12 as injustices, indignities and crimes.
This is very disturbing, Moore said. Its a traumatic incident, especially for a 12-year-old child that was forced into it and threats were made not to tell. Its very sad. Its very disheartening that a 12-year-old I just dont know how she would be able to cope with that. As an adult, I dont think I could. It would be a heavy decision to make.
Neither defendant entered a plea at Wednesdays arraignment. The case moves forward with both maintaining their innocence. Cabell Circuit Judge Alfred Ferguson released both defendants on a $20,000 bond, although he indicated a willingness to consider increasing the amount due to the new charges. He scheduled their next appearance for April 21. Both defense attorneys declined comment afterward.
Another human being slaughtered in an abortuary . . . ain't this a wonderful country?
Inbred idiot parents should go to jail.
And the abortuary that did the killing and didn’t report the rape? You know they’ll get off scot-free.
I disagree with the WV state police on this one.
The parents of this child drug her into one of Charleston’s two abortion mills and forced her to have the procedure. Only they can’t say that.
I’m sure the abortion clinic reported a minor’s abortion to the police, childrens services! /s
“And the abortuary that did the killing and didnt report the rape?”
Well here is where things get interesting. Remember her parents brought her in to the clinic for one.
“In West Virginia, a health care professional is only required to report a situation like this if they suspect abuse. There is no mandate for reporting an underage pregnancy — even with a patient as young as 11.
We found out the same is true in Ohio. The Department of Job and Family Services says doctors, teachers, and others in positions of authority are required to contact authorities in cases like this, only if they suspect abuse.
In Kentucky, however, anyone under the age of 12 becoming pregnant is automatically classified as first-degree rape. So there, authorities are required to be notified. “
For those of us not familiar with West Virginia, what is the significance of Ona?
“Inbred idiot parents should go to jail.”
Where are the dog-killing cops when you need’em?
“what is the significance of Ona?”
You are happier in not knowing. Let’s just say I’m not in the least surprised this happened in Ona. What surprises me is it is not caught more often.
I am an 11 year old girl in Cabell County, WV. I live at home with my parents and
three older brothers. I do my chores, and attend school. I am still a virgin, a member
of the 4H club, and go to church on Sundays.
Are my brothers gay?
When our Attorney General expressed a plan to go after statutory rapists, Kathleen Sebelius came unglued - said that it wasnv’t rape, it was “Romeo and Juliet” and went full bore to protect her political donations from the pro-aborts and the abortion industry.
Oder two Millstones.
They may have birthed this child, but “parents” they most certainly are not.
One was stepparent. So where is her real mother I wonder?
Where’s Judge Roy Bean when you need him?
Children are no longer the goal and reason for marriage, personal gratification is.
Pp doesn’t obey those laws anyway
Planned Parenthood is pro-rape. It's good for business. Don't "judge" people.
Planned Parenthood has been repeatedly caught on tape coaching young girls to lie about the nature of their pregnancy and the age of the father.
