Unlike the average Beltway insider, a report by Interest.com claims the majority of medium-income American households in 24 of 25 cities studied cannot afford the average new-car price of $32,086.
AOL Autos reports the study focused on each city’s median income in relation to the new-car price average as pegged by Kelley Blue Book. Said price was broken down to monthly payments of $633 per month for 48 months with 20 percent down while interest, insurance and principal exceeded no more than 10 percent of the household’s gross income.
The only city out of 25 to pull off the feat? Washington, D.C., whose residents can afford the average of $32,531 on a new car, broken down to 48 monthly payments of $641.

I can comfortably buy a 10 year old car. I am looking at Honda Accords or Civics to replace a 1992... Honda Accord that I really do not need to update as everything works (after replacing the alternator and battery today!).
I would put down $2,000 and then can make the $200/month payments for 36 months. I would never pay more then $8,000 or a longer payment period then that.
Maybe I am cheap but a car I buy has 4 wheels like that brand new 2014 Honda Accord that costs $35,000 and has $1,000/month for 36 months payments.
Even at the ridiculous 72 months it is $540/month

Exactly. My loaded V-6 Camry cost under $28K. The same goes for houses - we stayed way below what we could afford and got what we needed and were able to make mods/upgrades to suit the wife without stressing our budget.
What he meant to say was 50% more because of 75 less production..
A big part of that cost is directly traceable to overwhelming and unnecessary government intervention and regulation.

No kidding. Welcome to the new FreeRepublic where we are to believe that government parasites who do nothing and produce nothing are sadly under-payed even when this assertion is demonstrably false. When the AVERAGE govt salary is 50-60% higher than the AVERAGE private sector salary we are to feel sorry for those poor, poor government employees????
