I NEVER intentionally use any of the following: sauerkraut, ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce, onions, tomatoes, sweet peppers, hot peppers, and pickles, with but one exception. I put ketchup on hot dogs.
My new favorite condiment. I haven’t tried it on a hot dog YET.
John Kerry’s Heinz ketchup, no. Hunt’s ketchup, yes.
I’m not a commie Kenny. And yes I often use mayonnaise on my Pomme Frites aka French fries. That was something I picked up from tours in Germany and trips to the Ardennes in Belgium while in the US Army. See my tag line.
Thanks for posting that. It’s one of the most memorable Dirty Harry scenes. For the record I used to like hot dogs with ketchup and relish, the bun grilled in butter.
I have always put ketchup on my hot dog. But I always put the additions, cheese, chili, onions, etc., on first and the hot dog last. Has a tendency to keep everything from spilling out.
OPENING ROUND
Lower seeds like cole slaw, sweet peppers, hot peppers, and pickles all clearly lose in the first round, no matter which of the higher-seeds they are matched against. Just too many people who don't like sour or hot flavors.
Tomatoes fall off the round dog too easily, and are just a less-sweet ketchup anyway (although a nice crisp texture on good diced tomato pieces are very welcome on many other foods).
Ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce, and cheese are all higher-seeds that easily move on to the second round.
The middle seeds are the tough calls: sauerkraut, chili, mayonnaise, onions, bacon, and pulled pork. (5 v 12, 6 v 11, 7 v 10, and 8 v 9)
I'd have to say that onions drop off because too many people just don't like them. Sauerkraut is somewhat more traditional, so it moves on.
Among chili, mayo, bacon, and pulled pork, I'd say bacon and pulled pork move on. "Chili" is highly variable, and many regions would simply disdain the NON-chili that is being passed off as beloved "chili" in their hometowns in this competition. Mayo is ok, and easily spreadable, and beats one of the bottom seeds. Bacon is universally loved (try a bacon cheese dog at 5-Guys sometime... it works very well), and pulled pork has the advantages of BBQ sauce, pork, AND the ability to stay on the dog even better than chili or tomatoes.
SECOND ROUND
ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce, mayo are in the Spread bracket... sauerkraut, cheese, bacon, and pulled pork are in the Toppings bracket.
Mayo loses out to any of the other 3... BBQ sauce makes a good run against mustard or ketchup. It's basically just a sweeter ketchup. Let's call it BBQ sauce over ketchup and mustard over mayo.
Sauerkraut has the disadvantage of being slightly sour, and Americans are cheese-crazed. Bacon v pulled pork in the second round is just one of those unfortunate match-ups where some great entity has to lose. You know, I'll go against my own opening statement and say pulled pork. Just sounds too good right now, LOL. (It's lunchtime here. I think I just decided what I'm having, LOL.)
SEMIFINALS
Mustard v BBQ sauce... tough call, but the mustard moves on. (Although the choice of spicy vs yellow would make a difference for many. Was that the 16th condiment?)
Pulled pork v cheese... I'd have to say pulled pork wins, just for volume. (Again, cheese on a 5 Guys dog is a winner for me, but if they offered pulled pork, I'd likely try that and stick with it.)
FINALS - mustard v pulled pork... If it came down to taste alone, I'd go with pulled pork... but there are just too many traditionalists to overcome the ingeniousness of the lesser-known and lesser-available pulled pork option. Mustard wins again, I guess. Looks like they got it right. Hmm.
Everyone here is crazy. Dorothy lynch dressing is superior on any dog polish or otherwise.

Complete nonsense!! Ketchup is glorious on a hotdog...with onions or without...combined with mustard or solo...with sauerkraut...in other wsords...ketchup is BOSS!!

I always get the same thing... 2 franks and an order of fries (they've got the VERY BEST fries on the planet!) But I can never make up my mind on the condiments, so I make one of each: Mustard & kraut on one, and ketchup & sweet relish on the other.
But when I make them at home, it's either chilli, cheese, and onions or Sabrett onions in sauce.

Yup! And in Kansas City, you can't find decent Jewish deli food anywhere. And of course, that means NO Knishes!
About once a year, I save up and send out for Katz's Deli... A couple of pounds of pastrami, their half dill pickles, their REAL NY rye bread & mustard, and about a dozen knishes (potato only!)
Shipped in, Fed Ex, next day!
