Thinking about moving to Phoenix ... input / advice?
Tonight | Your's truly

Posted on 03/15/2014 7:23:40 PM PDT by Ghost of SVR4

So I am thinking seriously about moving to Phoenix. I have lots of job opportunities out there but am at a loss of the topology as of current. I have a friend out there in Maricopa and he loves it. I will have to rent to start off so I am looking for decent rent for a 3 bdr. Looking for a quiet place or as quiet as I can get it. I currently commute an hour one way. So long as I can keep that, I am open to quite a bit of travel I believe. Also, and this may sound lame, but can I do home garden's out there? Is it simply too hot? What about water? (I'm looking at this from a SHTF perspective as I am accustomed to my area now and its abundance and ease.).

Any input would help...thanks!

From the SHTF perspective, probably not so good. Other than that, sounds great.

I live in CA, but spend a lot of time in PHX due to work, my company has pretty big operations there.

I like everything about PHX, except the heat.

Sarah Palin daughter bought a house there. Parts of AZ are hot most of the year.

We moved to Phoenix about 18 years ago from California and really enjoy it here...The georgous weather we have this time of the year offsets the heat that most people think of when they hear Phoenix, AZ. If you have air-conditioning and a pool and an indoor job, you will do fine (you might have to keep oven mitts in the car for the steering wheel - that’s a joke!)...Better yet, we are pretty conservative and love our Sheriff Joe Arpaio for standing up for AZ laws! We live in North Phoenix and can get to just about anywhere in the valley in around 30-45 minutes (except during heavy traffic). Paradise Valley is a great place to live and you can find a 3 bed/2bath for around 1,000/month to rent. There are also still some deals in purchasing if you have a good RE Agent...So, come on out to Arizona and take in Sedona and the Grand Canyon - you will fall in love at God’s handiwork and beauty...

Me either, although freezing cold doesn’t do anything for me either. I am a four seasons person with mild winters and no extremes on either end...lol

If you like Suaro cactus with little birds looking out and gravel yards painted green to look like grass and its 105 degrees the first week of June Phoenix is your Huckleberry. :=)

I’ve been out there several times over the last six months. People are nice, traffic stinks.

I seriously doubt you can garden. Every is sand, rock, or has spikes. Incredibly dry. It surprised me at how dry it is. From a preparedness side there will be no water if they lose electric.

It’s a desert.

A few years ago Phoenix was a mecca for kidnappings by drug cartel members for ransom...I do not know how it is now, but research is your best friend. Always make sure you have peace in your heart about the move. A preacher once told me to go somewhere on a visit before I moved there to see how I felt.

Check ‘city comparisons’ at bestplaces.com? for crime, economy, housing, and water etc.
