Sending Secretary of State John Kerry to negotiate with his Russian counterpart in a failed bid to avert a Moscow-backed referendum in Crimea was like sending a cupcake to negotiate with a steak knife, former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton said on Sunday. Speaking as the referendum was underway, Bolton told Fox News that both the Obama administration and the European Union (E.U.) were demonstrating weakness in their handling of the Ukraine crisis.
Even after Kerrys last-ditch talks with Lavrov on Saturday failed to avert the referendum, Kerry seemed reluctant to talk about sanctions. Asked during a press conference after the talks whether U.S. and E.U. sanctions would now be a fait accompli on Monday, he agreed that Obama and the E.U. have said if the referendum takes place, there will be some sanctions but then added immediately, Therell be some response, put it that way. Kerry referred several times during the press availability to Russias legitimate concerns and legitimate interests in Ukraine. We hope President Putin will recognize that none of what were saying is meant as a threat. Its not meant as a in a personal way, he said.

Bolton sure does have a way with words.
Never bring a cupcake to a steak knife fight.
John ‘Cupcake’ Kerry. Good one!
Send Dick Cheney...I trust him.
It’s like taking mac daddy at his word.
Hahahahahaha, thats good.
Gotta save that quote “”
John “Cupcake” Kerry.
That one should leave a mark.
Bolton and Kirkpatrick - the last U.N Ambassadors with courage and strength of conviction to stand for American interests. The were truly honorable American representatives. What we have now are cupcakes, just like Bolton says.
I wouldn't be so sure about that.
Kerry promised proof of Russian atrocities that will sway worldwide opinion against Putin.. he has testimony from someone he met recently who is a Russian soldier who told Kerry
"I witnessed Russian troops as they raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blew up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of Ukraine . . . ."
It's up to you Kerry will tell the world.
Bodybags Bolton attacks Cupcake Kerry. Two incompetents.
Do you remember assistant UN Ambassador Charles Lichenstein saying that if member states felt “they are not being treated with the hostly consideration that is their due,” they should consider “removing themselves and this organization from the soil of the United States. We will put no impediment in your way,” he continued, “The members of the U.S. mission to the United Nations will be down at the dockside waving you a fond farewell as you sail off into the sunset.”
Thanks for posting that picture. I need to take a few minutes and learn how to post pics on FR.
Sending a girlie-man’s toadie. What could go wrong?
But the Muslim minority in Crimea, the Taters, are descendants of Genghis Kahn. I bet “cupcakes” doesn’t know that.
I guess that those visions are still “seared” in his mind.
Those are beautiful words.
I am still waiting on Bolton to do something with the UN. I hope that comes to pass soon.
I also liked Bolton’s characteriztion of BO’s foreign policy....
“Peace through weakness”
Kerry fails the “Global Test.”
Hell, J F'ing Kerry couldn't pass a test in a phone booth, much less "global"!
Those two words Kerry said in that debate pretty much torpedoed his campaign.
... and had they taken him up on it, a beautiful sight.
I sure like the sound of that one!
Compared to Bolton, the Obamadork is a mere bacteria.
Albeit, a very dangerous bacteria.
Your pics are killing me! Just awesome!
I’m curious what Bolton would do if he had the opportunity to negotiate.
The USA holds no cards in this game. What is Kerry supposed to negotiate with?
Admittedly, planning to throw away what few cards you do hold is no way to win future hands, but that doesn’t change the fact that there is very little the USA can do to influence this situation.
IMO the best thing for the US to do would be to denounce the way Putin went about this annexation as immoral and illegal, while openly recognizing there’s nothing we can do to stop it. Blustering about as if you have influence when you don’t just makes you look stupid.
You know the sentiment about JFK was that it was "Camelot" which was a fairy tale, as is much of the sentiment about JFK.
The Reagan era was a different story: real, strong, robust, and true. His appointments and staff were stellar - the cream of the cop - people who you admire years later. At the time, I thought, "Hey, it shouldn't be so hard to get more Reagans in here, after all he's just a regular guy who loves freedom and America." Maybe that's like watching multiple Triple Crown thoroughbred winners within a short time (1970's). You think, "No big deal" until 30 years later you're still waiting for the next one.
I saw this comment on FOX this morning and I just roared with laughter.
Nobody needs to be mocked more than the “haughty Kerry”.
Some suggest approving the pipeline, produce more oil and gas, and export to Europe their oil and gas needs might hurt Russia.
Gee, that reminds me, I should schedule a colonoscopy.
Exactly... but remember when Obama took power back in 2009, he wanted the world to believe his presence on the scene would create an environment of universal peace, calm and kumbaya.... the most of America believed him.
And oh, the comeuppance since...
Reagan was exceptional. A real leader, very intelligent and thoughtful and an independent thinker. He would not have lasted a month at an Ivy League school or at CBS News.
It’s like telling a tamale to negotiate with Michelle Obama
It’s like telling a choom joint to negotiate with Barry Obama
It’s like telling the truth to negotiate with a progressive
It’s like telling a martini to negotiate with Ted Kennedy
I could go on and on...
You mean the President of Red-Eye, who’s mustache can benchpress more than Greg Gutfeld can?
If the US had at least looked strong and credible, this probably would never have happened
Mais, oui, je m’appelle Jean-François Carré.
