Cops find five Indian Ocean practice runways in MH370 pilot’s simulator, BH reports

Investigators have discovered the runways of five airports near the Indian Ocean loaded into Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah’s home-made flight simulator, a Malay daily reported today.

“The simulation programmes are based on runways at the Male International Airport in Maldives, an airport owned by the United States (Diego Garcia), and three other runways in India and Sri Lanka, all have runway lengths of 1,000 metres.

“We are not discounting the possibility that the plane landed on a runway that might not be heavily monitored, in addition to the theories that the plane landed on sea, in the hills, or in an open space,” the source was quoted as saying.

An earlier article had a picture, it was a commercial game (Microsoft Flight Simulator X) running on what appeared to be a pretty high end computer system complete with multiple large screen monitors, with flight yoke and foot controllers (gaming, not from a real aircraft). Lot’s of folks who enjoy flight sims have rigs like this. I am no expert on computer forensics, so not sure about the last question. You can set up custom flights in game that are saved, and any normal save games would be recorded so you could at least find out that much.

Wahhabis (Taliban religious doctrine inspired by Saudi Wahhabism) are headquartered in Kattankudy, East Sri Lanka. This is the route from their headquarters to that air strip at Petroleum Junction: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Kattankudy,+Sri+Lanka/Petroleum+Junction,+Sri+Lanka/@7.7581186,81.4564628,100386m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m13!4m12!1m5!1m1!1s0x3ae5331e2f99b853:0x82d52f9481a1211d!2m2!1d81.728499!2d7.675046!1m5!1m1!1s0x3afba2cee9feb6c5:0x7cc81dd53e4196a8!2m2!1d81.192682!2d8.552313

That would definitely not be Diego Garcia.

Exactly. Very early on, in the terror scenarios tossed about, a hypothetical Kamikaze attack on facilities there, it was assumed such a "big bogie" failing to answer demands to identify itself would be "splashed," probably before it came within a specific range.

The interesting question was whether the powers would own up, and how soon, and if a delay in owning up would effect a later decision in owning up... the longer the wait, etc.

It seemed likely, but a lot of the particulars ranged from the sensitive to the tin-foil-hat, and events moved on.

Of course, one reason for not owning up would be serving the interests of actors in the region whose purpose might have been to determine such information, even if DG is officially dormant.

Sounds like a diversion; better for the searchers to look at all the runways capable of handling a 777 to see if anything came in there.

1000 meters is 3300 feet. That’s an extremely short strip for a 777 from what I’ve read. It would be a roach motel for that plane. It could land, but it couldn’t take off.

Thanks jacknhoo!

Ping to this post!

Wonder how big a city is near that airfield; how many would’ve seen it?

US officials are now coming out and publicly stating that the Malaysians have from the beginning been putting out false information to mislead searchers.

Nothing that comes from Malaysia can be trusted including what was supposedly on this pilot’s computer.

Tinfoil hat on again. Here’s what happened:
The Captain was supposed to divert the cargo of Irish Whiskey to a St Patrick’s Day Bash on the Beach at Jack Gilligan’s private island in the Maldives, complete with airstrip, beach cabins, and hot escorts from Russia and Thailand. All comms were to be cut off to avoid party crashers.

So look for Gilligan’s Island, a 777 hidden under palm trees, and a bunch of drunken Asian businessmen and crew who don’t want to leave. The passenger list includes Ginger, Mary Ann and a professor.

Finally a plausible scenario.

Fits better than most I’ve seen. Either there or Shangri-La in Tibet’s Kunlun Mountains. But that was too snowy in March.
I was getting worried when my kid downloaded this “Fly Omar to Kandahar” game from a Pakistani website and didn’t realize he was in control of an actual aircraft. Fried the computer, too.

Interesting comment.

With all those theories of the plane crashing or landing, how come no one in the whole world has reported any sightings? @flyingwithfish

Flying With Fish@flyingwithfish 11m
@Pas0974 Land at night in a remote area or an area with military aircraft , no one knows the difference, they are used to seeing planes

“Mindful that the Islamic Sabbath is on Friday...”

The Muzzies don’t have a sabbath on Friday. It’s a prayer day, not a rest day for them.

Link, please. I have read reports which state a loss of confidence like: Questions over Putrajaya’s conflict of interest in search for missing flight MH370
"With contradictory statements and backtracking by Malaysian authorities involved in the search for the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, pilots and other aviation officials are asking if there is a conflict of interest on the part of Putrajaya in leading the probe into the disappearance of the aircraft. The Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) reported that chatter on the Professional Pilots Rumour Network have raised the possibility that the inconsistencies were a result of Putrajaya's efforts to "save face" as evidence point to possible pilot complicity in the disappearance of the aircraft more than 10 days ago. Several pilots have in fact called for the US authorities to take over the investigation, the report said.

Those might be alternate landing sites for ETOPS purposes.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ETOPS
ETOPS is an acronym for Extended range Twin Operations[1] as re-defined by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 2007.

It refers to flight times between diversion airfields, regardless as to whether such fields are separated by water or land. In aviation vernacular, the colloquial backronym is “Engines Turning Or Passengers Swimming,” referring to the inevitable emergency water landing of a twin engine aircraft after a double engine failure over water outside gliding range of land.

I have flown with thousands of pilots- many who fly mostly international destinations. I have NEVER heard of anyone having a full blown mock up in their home. EVER.

This guy is it. He is who they need to be looking for and get his family and torture them until they talk.

The captain with 30 + years flying experience built his flight simulator to replicate the 777-200. link

It's possible he was just practicing to improve his flight skills.

It's also possible he was running a covert flight school for terrorists, and was training people who might be needed to help him fly the plane. We don't know yet.
