Yes. Hard work provides many more opportunities for ‘luck’.

Making it in life is kinda like bustin broncs, you’re gonna get thrown a lot. The secret to winning is in how many times you get back on.

Great video to refute the left’s anger against success!

Yep.

As in:

Sow a thought, reap an action;
sow an action, reap a habit;
sow a habit, reap a character;
sow a character reap a destiny

Cynical much?

Depending on the context and timing a sex tape can be lucky or spell disaster.

I think that it is important to remember in the luck vs. hard work debate, that hard word is more important with making money, work and those type of achievements. When it comes to your personal life, finding a good person to love and marry, that is, luck is a much bigger factor. I think luck is a pretty big factor with children too. Children who have been raised well can still end up in all kinds of trouble. The psychiatric industry used to torment parents, blaming them for children’s mental illnesses, esp. mothers. Finally the mothers pointed out that there were siblings who had identical upbringing who turned out fine. That being said, children of course have much better odds in life with good upbringing.

The converse, making bad decisions is a sure fire path to failure.

Absofrickinlutely. Like electing a president because he’ll take care of your house payment and your health insurance.

What is the old saying “the harder I practice the luckier I get”.

We all know some who are lazy slobs with bad judgement, however, they continually complain about their lack of “luck”.

I will watch it—hope its not too long.
I don’t hate Ramsey and hearing that Gerry Rafferty theme music always reminds me of living in Missoula in the 70s. That being said, I am mad at him over a couple of things.

One is instructing landlords not to allow pets in rentals.

The other is what I consider the poor way he handled a call from a daughter in law working in a family restaurant business. Some people will probably remember this one. She was calling because she was concerned that her in-laws business was breaking some labor laws and was afraid that they’d get in trouble. She wasn’t necessarily in favor of the laws, that wasn’t the point. She was just being practical. No good deed goes unpunished, though. It turned out, breaks were the issue. They weren’t allowed as many or as frequent breaks as required by law. But everybody was happy and they were well paid and liked working there. So far. Ramsey thought she should shut up and stop rocking the boat. I detected a distinct shoot-the -messenger mentality. He suggested, in a cold tone, that maybe shed be happier seeking employment elsewhere. Even more surprisingly he said he’d never heard of laws governing breaks! Maybe Tennessee doesn’t have them, but a lot of states do and here’s this guy giving seminars on starting businesses and he’s ignorant on the fundamentals of labor law. Of course these laws get broken a lot, often voluntarily by employees in things like the restaurant or medical businesses, but bosses at least know about them. Again, the point is not whether you like the law, but not being ignorant. All it would take us one unhappy employee (maybe a plant)at her inlaws establishment and they’re in heap big trouble. Lawyers would be happy, though. This girl wasn’t trying to be a troublemaker, she was trying to be helpful.

Also Ramsey has the book Who Moved My Cheese? on his reading list. But that’s a rant for a different day.

OK, now Ive read it. I have to admit it—Ramsey nails this one. Now maybe people will understand why “you didnt build that” was so galling to a lot of people and the real reason why the longest lines to buy lottery tickets are in bad neighborhoods.
Just don’t listen to him on pets or labor law.

I thought the story about the sons in law was especially interesting. I still think that who your inlaws are is largely luck. But the fact that the girls actually had both parents in their lives throughout childhood and fatherhood modeled probably influenced them more than him cleaning his gun when the guys picked them up for a date. Some girls today don’t even know that the guy is supposed to ask you out on a date.

“Taking action is the result of a decision. If you take action, it is because youd decided to. If you don’t take action, you decided not to.”

Ha! You got me on that one. I think we are aligned, be smart and act smart!
