The highly anticipated next installment of the "Star Wars" franchise will be set 30 years after "Episode VI: Return of the Jedi," Walt Disney Co.'s chief executive officer Bob Iger said on Tuesday at the company's annual shareholders meeting.
Disney purchased "Star Wars" production company LucasFilm for $4.05 billion in 2012 and announced it would release three new films in the popular sci-fi series. Fans have been avidly awaiting details of the next film, "Star Wars: Episode VII."

It’s a license to print money, it’ll never go away, especially now that Disney owns it (Lucas did get that when you have a license then you should freaking print). It’s funny how big SW is when you realize that 4 out of the 6 movies basically blow. And yet when I hear that fanfare and see words crawling I get excited. And I’m really looking forward to this alternating 3rd trilogy stand alone schedule, hopefully there’s enough good ones to get SW up over 50%.
So, the new movies will deal with the Invasion of the Galaxy by the SW Moozies, known as the Yuuzhan Vong.

IIRC, the original plan was to make nine films, with the first three being in the middle, the second three being the meta-prequel, and the last three being the meta-sequel, so this would be following the original plan.
In any case, those of us who were at "Yo-Hi" (Nile C. Kinnick HS, now at the Yokosuka Naval Base but in Yokohama back in the day), when Mark Hamill was starring in the school plays, will be interested to see how MH fits in the role of Old Mentor; he will have to play it very differently from Sir Gielgud.

Episode 2 was the worst, however I have come to like Episode 1.
4 and 5 clearly were great, and I’m fond of 6 as well.
