Coach Jurgen Klinsmann received a gift on Tuesday only months before the start of the World Cup in Brazil when striker Julian Green, 18, chose to represent the United States mens national team instead of Germany.
Green, who was born in Tampa, Fla., to an American father and German mother, had played at the youth international level for Germany, but has petitioned FIFA for a one-time change of association, a process that is expected to be completed in a matter of weeks. Green recently moved up to the senior roster at Bayern Munich, the defending league champions in Germany.
Obviously this was a big decision, and I spent a long time discussing it with my family, Green said in a statement. I was born in Florida and my father still lives there, so I have deep roots in the U.S. Im very proud to be representing the United States."

Jurgen’s squad has American Germans and most of them are born from former American servicemen. At least we get a striker for the future in time as Donovan and Dempsey retire into the sunset.
He wasn’t going to make the German team, so this is his best shot at EVER going to the World Cup.
Just saw this on ESPN.com.
Juan Agudelo, now 21, who scored a goal at 17 for the national team should be our striker. Coincidentally he does look like Green. I had the pleasure, last year, of watching him play for the joke of a team, New England Revolution, who let him go to Europe.
Donovan plays as a withdrawn Forward/Winger or attacking Midfielder.
Definitely not a striker.
Dempsey is a striker.
