Well, the guy was an idiot then. I just picked up two policies from UnitedHealthCare - a Part D plan (on Medicare) and a Medigap plan. I called UnitedHealthCare because they are the insuring company - and not the website I signed up on (which was the Medicare site).
I got confirmation directly from the insurance company, had it mailed to me in writing and they sent me cards on it.
This guy is just too dumb to live!

He needs to notify the TV stations that he’s taking the bill to Harry’s Las Vegas office.
Let’s see. The guy bought and paid for his insurance. Nevada Health Link assured him he was enrolled. The insurance company took his money. Wow! They have a contract!
Then the guy had a heart attack and triple bypass surgery the first month his coverage was in effect.
Aside from his IQ and educational level not being as superior as yours obviously is, he was a very sick man. A very sick man who had a contract with an insurer. A very sick man who did not cause the problem or breach his contract.
If he’s not capable of handling his affairs, he should have someone doing it for him! And I’ve had to do that for several other people.
I still don’t see how he is at fault here. Maybe there was no one to handle his affairs. Maybe he thought there was nothing to handle since he paid for the insurance and the Nevada Health Link told him he was covered. Remember, he had a contract. He paid for coverage. He was told he had coverage. He’s the one who has a problem, and he isn’t the one who dropped the ball.
I don’t think it is unreasonable for an ordinary person to rely on a contract s/he did not breach.

Well, let me clue you into something that I’ve told everyone else that I know ... for over half a century now. You never depend on another entity, business, doctor, person or government to make sure your affairs are being handled right. No matter who it is ... you check and double-check (and depending on how important it is) ... and you verify for yourself that all aspects are as they should be.
No one else will look out for your own interests.
That’s why this guy needs someone more responsible to handle his important affairs for him. He obviously doesn’t know how to do it himself.
