Moscow signals concern for Russians in Estonia

(Reuters) - Russia signaled concern on Wednesday at Estonia's treatment of its large ethnic Russian minority, comparing language policy in the Baltic state with what it said was a call in Ukraine to prevent the use of Russian.

Russia has defended its annexation of Ukraine's Crimea peninsula by arguing it has the right to protect Russian-speakers outside its borders, so the reference to linguistic tensions in another former Soviet republic comes at a highly sensitive moment.

Russia fully supported the protection of the rights of linguistic minorities, a Moscow diplomat told the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, according to a summary of the session issued by the U.N.'s information department.

When Hitler absorbed the Sudetenland, at least he said (lies) he had no more territorial ambitions. Putin won't even say that. So long as Obama is Commander in Chief, the pickings will be easy for Russia. No country in eastern Europe is safe and they know it. Look at the calendar, its 2014. Exactly 100 years ago, the world slid into disaster in Europe and we are repeating that right in front of our eyes again. Barack Obama is the only person who can stop it and he is more interested in basketball brackets and golf than saving us from this looming catastrophe.

The Baltics - and Poland - had better tighten up their borders and get their respective militaries ready.

Poland is doing just that....and frankly if the Russians try to invade Poland, they will be in for a rude surprise.

Well with that sort of Putin logic there are Russians living all over the world that he might have concerns for giving his military the right to invade a sovereign country - but none in Russia proper considering the way he has his goons treat the citizenry.

We don’t hear much from Belarus. What is the nature of their current relationship with Russia?

Well there's an "imaginary" right, unknown in any system of international law.

Putin is allowed to say or do any crazy thing that pops into his head, and everyone is afraid to gainsay him.

He is getting drunk with power.

Lukashenko fears Putin, their relationship is up and down. Lukashenko once imagined himself as the one who would lead the new “Soviet Union” and Putin foiled those plans.

You ever get drunk without power? It's boring, no one listens to you.

How much of this is groundwork for further re-building of the Russian Empire and how much is saber-rattling so that the the cowardly weaklings in the EU (and US) can “negotiate” an agreement that Russia won’t invade those places while they ignore the Crimea annexation?

Basically, it would allow the western “leaders” the ability to save some face so that they can remain in positions of power for Putin to abuse later. I imagine the last thing he wants would be for these folks to be replaced with effective opposition.

The Baltics and Poland are full members of NATO, otherwise they wouldn’t have a chance against Russia. Attacking them would be a bout of insanity, but Russia seems to be just in the mood for that. Rabid animals should be dealt with mercilessly.

Does he really need to invade, or just sponsor separatist movements within those countries? Is it a violation of NATO for a group to seceed?

Coming soon to a peace conference:
Appeasement photo chamberlain1.jpg

The only thing we are missing is Putin saying: "This is absolutely my last territorial demand." But his policy of uniting all ethnic Russians under one country is no different than the policy Hitler pursued in Central Europe from 1936-1939.

The parallels are chilling, but there are differences. One is that I'm not sure that Putin is after world domination and wants to stuff Jews into ovens. But I do believe he will continue until he is checked by someone with a bigger stick. The other scary thing is that we don't have that bigger stick; our dear leader is intent on throwing away all his sticks.

When Jimmy Carter passes on to eternity, he'll meet Neville Chamberlain, and they'll shake hands and give thanks that Barack Hussein 0bama made their posterity look a whole lot better by comparison.
