;

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

:: abnegation ::

Politically correct “dog-whistle” alert!

This word has the vocabule, “neg” in it and may be misconstrued by overly sensistive liberals to be a slight against a governmnet protected class of citizens (based on melanin levels).

Americans voluntary abnegation of their responsibility to manage their own access to health care is a result of thier own proclivity to hide their heads in the sand of electronic entertainment.

I'm not always as erudite as i would like, and while i prize candor, i am not above a white lie now and again. I exist in amity with my neighbors. But when it comes to Obamabot thinking, i am dauntlessly....divergent.

abnegation -

getting rid of belly fat?
or is it some vaguely racist sounding term?

The Democrats and Republicans seem fit to feed themselves heartily from the trough while common Americans are abnegating luxuries such as expensive meats, new automobiles, and lavish homes.

There once was an awkward occasion
When a man of the Caucasian persuasion
Speaking quite literally
Used the word Niggardly
Nearly leading to his free speech abnegation

i think Marian Robinson galls me even more than Mooch. That woman installed her behind in the WH and she was determined to get what she could from that gig from the JUMP. can’t you just imagine her BARKING at the hotel staff, as the article put it?

As Obama and Holder
Get braver and bolder

Quite a bit more involved:

Ingredients:
1 mayor, black, Democrat
1 mayoral aide, white, gay, democrat
Various government workers, black, ignorant, democrats

In lieu of yeast, throw “niggardly” into budget discussion.

Stand back and let fun begin!

______________________________________________
Washington Post
Thursday, February 4, 1999; Page A1

D.C. Mayor Anthony A. Williams said yesterday that he will rehire a former top aide who resigned last month because some city employees were offended that the aide used the word “niggardly” in describing how he would have to manage a fund’s tight budget.

Williams, whose quick acceptance of David Howard’s resignation last month led to a national debate over racial sensitivity and political correctness, indicated in a statement yesterday that he had made a mistake and “acted too hastily” in allowing Howard to resign as head of the city’s constituent services office.

The mayor said that an internal review had “confirmed for me that Mr. Howard did use the word ‘niggardly,’ but did not use a racial epithet” during a Jan. 15 discussion with two employees of the Office of the Public Advocate. “Niggardly” means miserly and has no racial connotation.

Williams said that one of the employees, identified by Howard as Marshall Brown, interpreted Howard’s remark as a racial slur. Brown has declined to comment on the incident.

In a private meeting yesterday, Williams asked Howard to return to the Office of the Public Advocate. Howard declined but said he would accept another job in Williams’s administration.

Howard, 44, said yesterday that he never felt “victimized” but that the experience has given him “a certain awareness” he did not have before the incident occurred.

“I just feel very pleased that this whole thing has a silver lining,” he said. “The silver lining is that this has led to a discussion that can help everyone understand each other better. . . . I used to think it would be great if we could all be colorblind. That’s naive, especially for a white person, because a white person can’t afford to be colorblind. They don’t have to think about race every day. An African American does.”

Howard’s resignation Jan. 25 made him the subject of dozens of television and radio broadcasts and newspaper columns across the country

She (Robinson) has a precedent. Remember that Hillary’s mommy lived at the WH (ostensibly to take care of Chelsea) from the time her husband died until the Clinton’s left with their dozen+ truckloads of antiques, furniture, and baubles. And remember that the Cs had arrived 8 years prior with NOTHING except the Rose Law firm records.

Not only did Hillary’s mother live at the WH throughout nearly the whole Clinton presidency, one of her ne’r do well brothers lived there too towards the end of their term in office. I think that Roger Clinton was a resident for a while, as well.

The brother and brother in law were selling pardons, as I remember.

Is there even a chance religious freedom will last in the U.S.? The commies the kenyan placed on the SC are going to vote against Hobby Lobby and our own turncoat has already voted against us before. I fear my favorite craft store is doomed because I don’t think they will back down.

My abnegation for Lent has been fasting daily. Somehow, God has blessed my effort and it is going fast. Losing some unwanted weight is a nice perk.

3 more weeks till my surgical consult. I hope it goes fast after that....I watched a youtube vid on knee replacement and couldn’t eat all weekend. I had to force food down. I had a big breakfast this morning, thankfully my appetite returned.

i don't see it either. did you see that Raymond Burke spoke out in his role as CJ at the Vatican to say that Obams is kind of beating on the christians in the US? i wonder if it's too much to hope that Francis would speak to him about that, and not just about the happy slappy income inequality etc topics that they are sure to cover.

i made brunch for my "galpals" [xsteen jokingly used that term for them, LOL] on Sat AM, because one of my friends had a bday. I made two different quiches. One in particular was really good. A caprese quiche, with mozzarella, tomatoes and basil. it was EXCELLENT. it's a good lenten lunch also and you might want to make some stuff like that to have on hand after your surgery so you can just heat it up while recuperating. Here's the recipe. it will be even better when there are legit ripe tomatoes available in the summer. i used fresh mozzarella which i sliced for the bottom layer.

oh and RIP SU, huh? really it's a blessing to have the plug pulled on that team. They were virtually UNWATCHABLE. xshub was out looking for some dishes for me [seriously, that's how hard up he was to get out of the house! it was hilarious!] and i had it on the tv, had to turn it off bc it was making me sick. then tried watching it on my phone, and then couldn't take that any more. just followed it on twitter. he came home all chipper and said he was over it, but then yesterday he was morose and then later in the ANGRY grief stage, LOL!

Pitt really pooped the bed in their game too. Were doing great the entire first half and then just lost it altogether in the second half. I will not watch any more but will have a casual rooting interest in Baylor, for my nephew's sake. he WON tix to yesterday's game, by tweeting an inspirational message to the coach, LOL. I am happy for him that he's got to see all of the games so far.

I was thinking the same thing. I know I could beg lunches from friends and they would come through, but I like my independence. I even wondered how quiche would freeze. Your’s sounds great.

I warned them at my diner/breakfast greasy spoon type...that I would be disappearing for knee surgery. They mentioned they just had a customer turn back up after her knee surgery. She was looking good.

Pitt stuck with them for a while. But the number of offensive rebounds Florida got was astounding.

And the poor kid from VCU who fouled at the end of the game and blew it for his team. I’d hate to be him.

Well, the first round is on my left leg. I was reading the book and learned that as soon as I am off serious pain meds and feel able, I can drive. I use my right leg for driving, so that sounds good to me. Three weeks is what I am hearing. Pain levels drop, even heard from one friend that her dad’s pain level dropped to bearable after a few days. Even better news. I cling to reports like that. Still have not seen the surgeon, so I can’t imagine what he will say. If I can get into my pool for the summer, I know I will get use of my knee to the level I want it. Hopefully, in the fall I can move on to the other knee and repeat this. RME
