But who gets to blow out the candles?

What’s believed to be a lightly-camouflaged 50th Anniversary Ford Mustang has been spotted out on a test drive just a few weeks before its expected debut at the 2014 New York International Auto Show.

The GT-spec ‘Stang features several retro styling cues to mark the occasion, including a unique grille with a horizontal chrome bar and corral around the Mustang logo, what appear to be rear quarter window louvers hidden under a black panel, and forked-spoke wheels reminiscent of the ones seen on

*shrug* They handle like bathtubs. OK machines but I prefer others such as Challenger for looks or Charger for power...

I always wondered why the manufactures drive these things in public if they really want to keep them under wraps.

They all have test tracks and large facilities where they could evaluate their vehicles. Plenty of remote locations still exist in the U.S. to do testing without exposure.

Makes me think they want the info to leak out.

Too bad they didn’t make a copy of Edsel B. Ford IIs special order 1965 Mustang for the 50th anniversary.

The Edsel, like the Corvair, got a bad rap.

It wasn’t the car (which was quite innovative), it was the marketing.

Yeah, that's the weak design spot. Too "corporate" looking, but actually not as ugly as some of the concept sketches. At least they snuck a retro reference in there with the LED lights (everyone has to have 'em...) that mimic the '65-'66 cars' grill "vents".

Once you get inside, you can’t see how it looks outside. Most forget that!

They have to road test the car and the infotainment system.

Test tracks aren’t sufficient to fully shake out automotive
quirks.

You’re right. It’s a tease.

Fine looking automobile, though!

When I comes to preference I am a sucker for classic autos that have been given the full restorative modification treatment. This beautiful example of a tribute to American horsepower and high tech handling and braking will be rolling across the block at the Mecum auction in Houston in April. (I'll be watching and expecting a buyer in the $80K range)

“I don’t like the headlights.”

Look to be a holdover from the Jaguar/Ford JV. Basically a cheaper version of what is on an XJ.

Looks too much like a Mopar and not enough like a Mustang.

I remember the first one at our local dealer. It was an attractive car tho that particular one had a six cylinder and a 3 speed manual on the floor. That was 1964 and I still remember the kid whose family bought that first one.

The thing which surprised people was the price. It was something like $2400.00 or not much more than a falcon. Of course that is really what it was, just a more stylish Falcon.

Even the Falcon had a powerful V8 option tho I think the Mustang may have had a higher top HP rating a 271 HP V8 was available. That was a lot out of a 289.
