Funny thing.

I thought it was "Settled Science" that there is NO rogue planet orbiting in the distant blackness

It’s not a planet and it’s not the first object of that size discovered beyond Plto. In fact the other object is larger. We’re finding these planetoids now because our ability to find such objects is just now reaching maturity.

Awwww Gee Not This Shyt Again!!! I have been hearing since I was a kid that there is a Planet X, there isn’t a Planet X and now again there might possibly is a Planet X! Anyone got a low mileage used Klingon Bird of Prey out there so I can settle this mess?

One thing is clear: Astronomers will have to rethink the cosmic limits of our solar system.

I am working with a group of youth, preparing them for Confirmation. Last week we set off to explore the universe. One interesting piece of information we discussed comes from NASA.

According to NASA, more is unknown than is known. We know how much dark energy there is because we know how it affects the Universe's expansion. Other than that, it is a complete mystery. But it is an important mystery. It turns out that roughly 68% of the Universe is dark energy. Dark matter makes up about 27%. The rest - everything on Earth, everything ever observed with all of our instruments, all normal matter - adds up to less than 5% of the Universe. When it comes to the oceans, we know only 3%.
Nothing is "Settle Science".

According to one article the discoverers are having a little fun with the designation VP113. They’re calling it Joe Biden. Apropos I think since it’s a dwarf and orbits so far from the center of things.

The term “settled science” is a political term in the current parlance; it used to refer to things like those erosion experiments in science class, or the use of vacuum to make water boil without heating it.

I remember in the latter example, one of my fellow corn-fed farm boys said, “how do you know he isn’t heating that from below?”

Thanks NYer. One of the traps people from all walks wander themselves into is the false idea that knowledge is complete. :’)
