Skip to comments.UN Backtracks: Will Global Warming Really Trigger Mass Extinctions?

Humans have shrunk the habitats of many life forms, through unsustainable agriculture, fishing or hunting. And it is going to get even worse. Global warming is said to be threatening thousands of animal and plant species with extinction. That, at least, is what the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has been predicting for years.
But the UN climate body now says it is no longer so certain. The second part of the IPCCs new assessment report is due to be presented next Monday in Yokohama, Japan. On the one hand, a classified draft of the report notes that a further increased extinction risk for a substantial number of species during and beyond the 21st century is to be expected. On the other hand, the IPCC admits that there is no evidence climate change has led to even a single species becoming extinct thus far.
At most, the draft report says, climate change may have played a role in the disappearance of a few amphibians, freshwater fish and mollusks. Yet even the icons of catastrophic global warming, the polar bears, are doing surprisingly well. [ ]
The draft report includes a surprising admission by the IPCCthat it doubts its own computer simulations for species extinctions. There is very little confidence that models currently predict extinction risk accurately, the report notes.

Intelligence at the UN is mostly extinct.
Algore isn’t going to like this...
how did the earth, and more importantly LIFE ON EARTH ever survive “mass extinctions” in the past, when no humans were around to “save” LIFE on earth - LIFE writ large, irrespective of one species or another!!!!
but LIFE did and has many times survived many mass extinctions, and in fact, if “evolutionists” were TOTALLY honest with those in the church of “catastrophic climate change” they, the “evolutionists” would say that “mass extinctions” played a role in evolution, evolution of how LIFE was once dispersed on the earth to how it is dispersed today, for evolution is NOTHING if it is not survival and adaptation to change
Dinosaurs will be coming back.
Last couple of glacial cycles... which the earth has been going through for a LONG time at least in the last 10 million years didn't kill that damned many critters. And each glacial cycled swung from little to no ice to what is above...
honestly, one can only hope.
Nope. No fracking coal or nuke for you. Freeze and starve in the dark with your Russia inspired mental clarity.
I welcome the mass extinction of global warming alarmists.
Bingo. Someone finally said it. I agree.
If one believes in evolution then isn’t it just a matter of time before all species will become extinct?
Adapt to the environment or die. Why complain or try to stop the inevitable?
Of course it will. EVERY SINGLE LIVING THING ON THIS PLANET WILL DIE!!!
According to evolution all species should be getting “better” at adapting, gaining useful dna information through random mutations (which invariably cause a detrimental effect, not a beneficial one).
I guess what I meant is that we shouldn’t worry about it. If a species doesn’t get better at adapting, then isn’t it better to be rid of them?
They won’t “get better at adapting”, but some parts of the species may have maintained some of their originally created adaptive ability.
