Monster 16-inch rat terrifies Swedish family in kitchen: report
NY Daily News ^ | March 26, 2014 | Michael Walsh

Posted on 03/26/2014 9:59:40 PM PDT by EinNYC

Forget Godzilla — this monster is real.

A Swedish family recoiled in terror when their trap did not immediately kill a 16-inch rat scurrying around their kitchen.

The gargantuan rodent, metal clasped tightly around its neck, powered through the pain and scampered off behind Signe Bengtsson-Korsas' kitchen cabinets, The Sun reported.

"It was a monster, the worst thing I have ever seen," she told the British tabloid.

Her husband, Erik, added, "The rat was so big it did not die."

Eventually the squeaking stopped.

The nearly invincible beast was found lifeless behind their dishwasher.

"In the end we managed to find it dead, it had slowly strangled," Erik said. "Then we felt a bit sorry for it."

Erik Bengtsson-Korsas could not believe the size of the rat that got into their home outside Stockholm. Justus Bengtsson-Korsås via Facebook Erik Bengtsson-Korsas could not believe the size of the rat that got into his family's home outside Stockholm.

The family told The Sun that pest control workers showed up a few hours earlier to set up the deadly trap at their home in Solna, a suburb of Stockholm.

The rat had already wreaked havoc on their home. At one point the rodent managed to gnaw through a pipe and flood the kitchen.

They initially thought a mouse made it in when they saw their pet cat Enoch standing guard in the pantry and noticed his predatory instincts rising up.

Instead, they found the gigantic rat. It darted out and startled Bengtsson-Korsas when she went to empty the trash. She and her cat ran for the hills.

"We were all terrified, I thought it was going to bite my toes," her son Justus told The Sun.

The humans say they think that the rat got into the household through a ventilation pipe, which has since been blocked off with brick.

Holy crumbs! I can't imagine how frightened I'd be if this monster made it into my home! Even my 2 cats would probably have way too much sense to even try and take it on.

[ “In the end we managed to find it dead, it had slowly strangled,” Erik said. “Then we felt a bit sorry for it.” ]

And this is why the “Land of the Vikings” is not long for this world....

Bunch of European-ized panty-wastes!

Growing up on the farm my brothers cleaned up an old grainery, they went in with shovels in the morning to dig up it’s dirt floor...

By evening we had a pile of dead rats about 3ft tall....

Not a Sh!t was given for all those dead ass rats.

We never had a rat problem in that grainery again... I think they managed to get them all!

Range of Virginia Opossum. As far as I know, there are no opossums in Sweden.

Opossums have white fur on their faces, generally. And there aren’t any opossums living in Sweden FWICS. The brown rat, Rattus norvegicus, can reach 18 inches in length though.

PS. There is also one venomous snake species in Sweden, the common European adder (Vipera berus). Those can get into houses very easily through holes made by a rat that size.

Those are listed as extinct in the wild in Sweden. And the tail of the coypu would be a lot thicker than on that rat. Not to mention that the average length of coypu is about two feet from head to tail, which is somewhat larger than that rat.

i’m not overjoyed at having to kill things, but wild, disease-carrying vermin in the house is a safety and sanitary issue. for pets and people. i bury mice and chipmunks the domestic cats from my neighbors torture and kill. that said i take proactive steps to prevent them from getting into my garage and house.

Looks like a Norway Rat. I've killed a few of them here near Pittsburgh. Easily as large as the one in the picture.

Decades ago, before Point State Park had been developed where the Monongahela and Allegheny meet to form the Ohio, my friends and I used to hang out there and wade in the water. It was just dirt and tall grass. The place had been used as a dumping ground for the Pittsburgh restaurants.

Home to river rats, the BIGGEST rats I have ever seen, easily over 20" including tail.

Lived in New Jersey and found a dead critter in the garage- was probably 14-16 inches long body - hung over the spade shovel. I showed my landlord thinking it was a muskrat (I’m from the Midwest). He laughed. “No - that’s a big a$$ Norway Rat!”
