In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
infix \IN-fiks\ noun
a derivational or inflectional affix appearing in the body of a word
Example sentences:
The Philippine language of Tagalog adds infixes such as "-um-" and "-su-" to verbs to convey different tenses and voices.
"As Mark Peters writes, [The Simpsons character Ned] Flanders is 'hyper-holy,' and his infixes sanctify a typically profane process. He is also gratingly cheerful
and diddly perfectly conveys his sunny attitude: murder and dilemma sound a lot less forbidding when infixed as murdiddlyurder and dididdlyemma
."
From Michael Adams' 2009 book Slang: The People's Poetry
Etymology:
Like prefixes and suffixes, infixes are part of the general class of affixes ("sounds or letters attached to or inserted within a word to produce a derivative word or an inflectional form"). Infixes are relatively rare in English, but you can find them in the plural forms of some words. For example, "cupful," "spoonful," and "passerby" can be pluralized as "cupsful," "spoonsful," and "passersby," using "s" as an infix. Another example is the insertion of an (often offensive) intensifier into a word, as in "fan-freakin'-tastic." Such whole-word insertions are sometimes called "infixes," though this phenomenon is more traditionally known as "tmesis."
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
That’s Jimmy!
Now that is a clever one!
You were probably smart to take the C and walk. A local community college prof recently taught an advanced Chemistry course insted of a beginning level course and although most kids were failing the school refuses to step and and do anything about it. Sorry kids - it was her first year to teach the lower level course so you just paid to lower your GPA.
xsbaby is finding it difficult to accept that professors do not really give a crap if you learn or not, in college. her HS was incredibly supportive and nurturing and i believe it did the kids a disservice bc the contrast is quite stark.
Bams will “probably” read it....he is so condescending
and yeah the Pope is about the only other person who has more protocol to deal with than Obams.
I’m sorry to hear this - especially for your children. I hope you and your wife keep a good relationship for their sake. I have heard some childish and ridiculous comments about “their mother” mentioned from divorcing dads (and the comments about “their dad”) with people forgetting that the children share DNA from both parents. Usually in a selfish move, couples divorcing put themselves first and forget what it is doing to their children.
Bams will feel he is equal to the Pope now since they have discussed the evil income equality in the world.
I saw that on tv the other night..... totally rethinking mulch and will be watching closely for these ants while dodging mounds of man eating fire ants...
I heard it on the radio - was disappointed to read here later that none of the “Crazy Aunts” were cougars.
The Pope just dissed the governor of PA yesterday. Cancelled a private audience at the last minute.
And I take Dug
Thanks.
However, she is the vituperative sort.
That was my second choi - SQUIRREL!
Sorry man - that’s a long time to be on a rough road.
Haha - I was just glad to know they don’t bite like fire ants...although they can destroy your home!
see - the “home wreckers” part of the report had me all excited too...
