Hey, "Noah" Supporters, Enough with the Guilt Trip Already!
TownHall.Com ^ | March 29thy, 2004 | Todd Starnes

(Excerpt)

Hollywood director Darren Aronofsky promised to create the least biblical, biblical movie ever made. And based on the early reviews of his film -- Mr. Aronofsky made good on his promise.

He left the word "God" completely out of his movie and turned Noah into a crazed environmentalist with anger management issues who wants to slaughter his family.

I also had some issues with the rock creatures portrayed in the film. Forefathers of "The Thing," perhaps?

Other thread pulled because it didn't excerpt the TownHall Article. Shame, because there was some good discussion gong on there.

Hopefully those involved can resume that chat here.

My own take on where Todd Starne's "review" misses the mark:

I think the problem Todd Starnes states in the article below is actually much worse than he thinks.

There are people who have a "minimal" faith in God who may have never picked up a Bible, and only go to church on Christmas and Easter.

I suspect I just described a fairly large group of people. I say that based on how my own Church's attendance swells by a factor of three on Christmas, Easter and Mothers Day.

The group of people I just described above goes to see the movie.

They believe it. Every word. Every action. Every scene.

Of course for those of us familiar with the recounting of Noah in the Bible because we've actually read it, we know that Noah wasn't a "mad environmentalist" who wanted to murder his own family as the movie portrays.

We know that's not true because we've read the Biblical recount of Noah for ourselves and what the movie portrays for all of 1 hr 38 minutes is nowhere in the Bible. (Save for the part where God actually causes it to rain and floods the earth.) But those of minimum faith (as I call them) don't know that because they don't pick up their Bibles to read them, and literally "only know what they're told" on Christmas and Easter.

When those of minimum faith see how Noah is portrayed in the movie (a mad environmentalist who wants to kill his family) they believe it because they have not read their Bible. This is where the movie deliberately paints a portrayal of Noah that's not only inaccurate, it's diametrically opposite of who Noah was and what he represented.

For those who may not know, As Noah built the Ark - which was not a small task completed quickly - he urged those around him and all who would listen to repent and be saved. Noah rightly feared God and what he knew was going to happen. He also loved his family and his fellow man so much that he sounded the alarm of repentance over, and over, and over again. No one outside Noah's own family listened.

The real danger of the movie "Noah" is that it deliberately deceives those of "minimum faith" preying on the fact that they may not or do not know the true story.

THAT my friends, is the danger of this movie to the Christian faith.

God works in mysterious ways.

It's not uncommon for movies to spur sales of the books they were based upon.

Here's hoping millions of people go out and buy The Book.

The rock creatures moved like a Transformer and talked exactly like the head Ent from Lord of the Rings. They fought like Ents too.

I can’t stand Russell Crowe

He and Meg Ryan are adulterers and ruined Dennis Quaid’s marriage

I got no use for either of them

Okay, well, at least he got the portrayal of your typical environmentalist right.

Let's at least give him credit for that.

The couple minutes we got of the “Scottish Noah” from the TV Mini Series “The Bible” was far superior...

The movie The Ten Commadments is inaccurate in many places but is loved by most Christians. The reason is that the errors are non-theological,

‘and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved. 11For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false, 12in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness.’ 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12————They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 2 Timothy 4:4

Guess what I was trying to say is that the ‘rock creatures’ aren’t even an original concept.

A little artistic license for the sake of entertainment is one thing. For the sake of rewriting history or overturning the truth is another.

Wasn’t there an old si-fi movie from the 1950s with rock creatures in it? I can’t seem to find it.

Just another Hollywood bait & switch.

Everyone knows the story of Noah and it's true biblical story.

Instead, viewers get more environmentalist propaganda that never mentions the word God once.
