Man does C-section on dead porcupine, saves baby

LISBON, Maine — A Maine man in search of a valuable mineral cut open a dead porcupine on the side of the road and unexpectedly pulled out its baby.

Jared Buzzell, of Lisbon, says he was searching for wild mushrooms Thursday when he saw a porcupine get hit by a car in Minot. Buzzell says he'd heard that a valuable mineral deposit used in Chinese medicine formed in the stomachs of porcupines.

He then cut open the dead porcupine to search for the mineral and instead found the baby.

He tells WMTW-TV (bit.ly/1hlWRUl) he cut the umbilical cord and thought the baby porcupine was dead until he started massaging it and it began breathing.

That is so cool. I hope it survives. All young, no matter the species, deserve a chance. May those that support abortion be damned to an eternity of suffering.

It would be cute were it not so ugly.

So cute.

My mom always says God made all babies cute so they would be taken care of.

Makes sense to me.

In a lot of areas for the damage they do to trees, buildings and dogs.

They are shot on sight, killing a female with young is just considered a two for.

Wait.... Stop... thinking about the logistics/physics of this....

Are they born nose first?

Because... I never thought about how they gave birth, and may regret thinking about it at all.

Steely Dan: “the things that pass for knowledge I just can't understand.” All good and well, so he saved a porcupine. Big whoop! Have him do that to a human and see what happens.

LOL! What a discombobulated post. What does passing for knowledge have to do with any of this? What does doing this to a human have to do with any of this? You mean finding a dead human mother and cutting her open and saving her infant?

I live in Maine, and this story was on a local TV station.

They showed the man with the baby porcupine, and it didn’t look anything like this picture.....it actually WAS cute.

He was nursing it back to health. His two young children wanted to keep the porcupine, but the man said, “It’s not going to happen.”

Apparently it’s illegal to keep a baby porcupine in captivity, so the man is going to turn it over to the fish and game authorities.

They showed this story on the local news here in Maine.

The man has two young children, so I guess he likes human babies, too.

He was feeding the porcupine cow milk, I think with an eye dropper. (I saw this story on the news here in Maine).

The first thing I noticed here in the Ozarks, after being dragged kicking and screaming from the Rocky Mountains, was the lack of porcupines. Lots of possums dead on the road, but no porcupines.

Once while walking near Little Rock, there was a dead possum, and around her lots of dead babies all run over by cars.

I still wish I was back in the Rockies! God I miss it! Too old to move.
