Diet drinks linked with heart disease, death

Women who drink the most diet sodas may also be more likely to develop heart disease and even to die, according to a new study published Saturday.

Researchers found women who drank two or more diet drinks a day were 30 percent more likely to have a heart attack or other cardiovascular "event," and 50 percent more likely to die, than women who rarely touch such drinks.

The findings, being presented at a meeting of the American College of Cardiology, don't suggest that the drinks themselves are killers. But women who toss back too many diet sodas may be trying to make up for unhealthy habits, experts say.

"Our study suggests an association between higher diet drink consumption and mortality," said Dr. Ankur Vyas, a cardiovascular disease expert at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic, who led the study....

There has never been a case in history that any one who has heart problems is not doing something wrong.

I cannot stand the taste of diet sodas, definitely has to be an acquired tolerance. So, you would see me picking regular soda. But, I rarely drink a full regular soda. Takes me about a week to 10 days to drink a soda.

Drink about a gallon of water a day, though.

People who drink diet sodas have already self-identified as being concerned about weight

I started drinking them to prevent tooth decay from sugary drinks, and it did pretty much work. I can't be the only one. Otherwise I agree with all you said.

If you get your water from a public water supply system, you should have a really good idea what’s in it. The federal Safe Drinking Water Act requires water suppliers to test for hundreds of different contaminants regularly and to issue annual Consumer Confidence Reports to their customers

Uh, maybe this has to do with the fact that such woman are fat as a house, may have cardiac issues already, and engage in dangerous “binge” diets?

If you drink water for enough years you will die too.

Well...I’m not fat. I drink a lot of water, but I also enjoy my diet Mt. Dew. Better that than a ton of HFCS, I guess.

Of the 7 billion people alive today, a large proportion have drunk regular Coke at some point in their lives...many more than once.

All of the people born before Coke was invented are dead.

That's not proof that drinking regular Coke helps prevent death, but it seems to help.

Wrong. People are born with defects, tiny babies undergoing maybe multiple heart surgeries and congenital anomalies that cause premature death. I suppose you also believe only smokers die from lung cancer. Government propaganda.
