Thank you both for your suggestions. The main side effect of atorvastatin (generic Lipitor) for me has been weakness and loss of muscle tone, and fatigue, which may just be related to the muscle weakness. I always prefer the treatment with the least amount of drugs if it will work for me.

I finally quit the Statins (I was borderline anyway) and I’ll probably switch to Red Yeast Rice. Niacin really jacks up the HDL.

You might want to talk to your doctor, there are three serious side effects to statins, Myositis, Elevated levels of CPK and Rhabdomyolysis. All of them have to do with the muscles and all are Very Bad Things.

Get your blood tested by your doctor. Those side effects should not be ignored.

Lipitor camethisclose to crippling hubby so he stopped taking it, finally listened to me and switched to lecithin.

A year goes by and he gets his annual blood work and the doc is thrilled with his cholesterol.

Says “Keep doin’ what yer doin’! The Lipitor is working!”.

So we told him what we’d done.

His jaw hit the floor.

He stopped *his* Lipitor and bought lecithin, too.

Stuff is like Drano for your veins.
