Man executed with controversial drug despite lawyer's appeal

A serial killer was put to death Thursday in Texas after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected his lawyers' demand that the state release information about where it gets its lethal injection drug.

Tommy Lynn Sells, 49, was the first inmate to be injected with a dose of newly replenished pentobarbital that Texas prison officials obtained to replace an expired supply of the powerful sedative.

Sells declined to give a statement. As the drug began flowing into his arms inside the death chamber in Huntsville, Sells took a few breaths, his eyes closed and he began to snore. After less than a minute, he stopped moving. He was pronounced dead at 6:27 p.m. CDT - 13 minutes after being given the pentobarbital.

They should have used a rusty cheese grater rather than comfy drugs.

Did it kill him dead? Then what is controversial about it?

Way overdue. He’s believed to have killed 22 people, but claims to have killed 70. Two thousand volts would have been better. Hasta la Vista dirtbag.

They didn’t even know for sure if the drug was safe, and now...the man is dead.

Sells took a few breaths, his eyes closed and he began to snore.

Or in defense-attorney speak: "a cruel and unusual death."

This is one time when the statement, “What difference does it make?” should be front and center.

The people who are protesting the justified ending of this murder’s life seem to have no trouble with Gosnell severing the spinal cord of a baby.

You really don’t even want to read the things this monster was convicted of doing.

I can’t imagine being a defense lawyer assigned to this

I don’t understand why they can’t just use Clorox, anti-freeze or something like that.

While executing a person is doubtless just in this case, I doubt that Jesus Christ would show any glee whatsoever at such an event, and, further, He would probably rebuke anyone who did show joy at the killing of another human being, however sinful such a person might have been. Christ would likely consider such a celebratory response shameful.

As a Christian, I felt led by the Spirit to make this observation...

Is justice repugnant to a true Christian, or is it pleasing?

What do you make of Romans 12:20?

The people who are protesting the justified ending of this [murderer's] life seem to have no trouble with Gosnell severing the spinal cord of a baby.

Just to be clear: I'm not protesting the justified ending of this murderer's life.

I'm simply protesting the glee, as I was led by the Spirit to do.

And, to be perfectly clear, I have a major problem with Gosnell severing the spinal cord of a baby.

Justice can be pleasing without being gloated over.

I'm simply asserting that Christ would show no such glee.

Thus, in an effort to emulate Him, I also do not take glee in this event.
